How to upgrade compaq presario 1247 bios

Have a 1247 and upgraded to a 40 gb hard drive and windows xp sp2. have 128 mb ram and 400mhz k6-amd processor. According to specs I can upgrade to 256mb ram and 550 mhz processor. I installed a 500 mhz k6-2 amd processor but bios does not recognize it. also I cannot upgrade memory with current bios. cannot find a newer bios version than the one I have already. I read about a guy selling one that made these upgrades but cannot contact him to ask how he did it. any suggestions?

You need to change the DIP switch settings to accomidate the new CPU.. Dont quote me but I believe 1 on and the rest off will do the trick.. (Its been a while since I've worked on the ole dino-laps)

thanks for the reply tried that setting and it would not boot up but all on gives me 450mhz so your information was very helpful will continue to play with dip switches though.

If you look on the reverse side of the board you will find the correct settings for various voltages.

This most likely has 32 megs onboard. Try a 256 but it most likely wont recognize.. I do think a 128 would run fine here though..
