Inspiron 9300 optical drive

I think my i9300's optical drive might be defective. It takes so long to copy a file from a cd to the harddrive. Last time I tried, it took 10 minutes to copy a 200 mb file. Even my old laptop was better than that!

Can anyone with a i9300 try to copy a 200 meg file from their cd to their laptop and tell me how long it took? I will be forever grateful!

On my HL2 dvd I copied a 307mb file in 1 minute flat. Dont know where on the disc it is though which will effect copy time.

You may want to try a different disc as the disc may be defective.

i think that is because of the disc, try another disc and see how long it takes to copy a similar sized file. Hope this helps,

Also go to Device Manager and check if both IDE controllers are using DMA modes instead of PIO modes.
