which to get, which to get

So first off, congratulate me

I walked away from a stable job with Vibe and Spin magazines to move on to greener pastures.. of which there were none.

So I landed a nice management job and i'll be getting a machine... my call.

Now the one downside is microsoft project. They may require it.. if that is the case, i'll be getting a mac for home.

if they let me get a mac well all the better.

so... What to get? 12" 15" 17"

if it's work supplied, they'll get me a second battery

Congrats...

I think its all down to personal preference. I have a 17" laptop now and while I love the screen its not particularly portable. Wheras a 12" laptop may have the opposite problem of not having enough screen estate for your needs but is nicely portable. The 15" tends to strike a balance between the 2 (plus it has a better GPU)

it is a personal preference matter, no point of asking anyone.

it really depends on what you're going to use the laptop for. For example, are you goign to be carrying it home every day from work? If yes, MY preference would be the 15". Relatively portable, and just as powerful as the 17". Screen size is also a nice balance between size and portability. The 17" will be the best desktop replacement, and the 12" is basically if you're going to be carrying the laptop around all day. It has the best portability, and such.

congrats oh fellow moderator! personally i'd nix the 17 unless as u noted u just end up getting a Mac for home. if it's dual purpose go with the 12" or 15". as u've had the 12" u know what to expect from it's mobility etc., i'd say compare your needs to the 15" and go from there. personally, the only upgrade i'd do from my 12" iBook would be to the 12" PB. but, my guess is that since u r asking, that u r leaning toward one of the big boys.

thanks guys.

yah i am leaning towards something biggar than 12.. the sizes is good, but the res is bad for me, i need some more space on my desktop now.

I guess if they'll drop for a second battery, i'll be going with a 15. If i get one for home, it'll likely be a 17" as it won't travel much.

cheers! and thanks for the warm wishes on the new job..

For what it's worth, considering you've bought already, I love my 17, but I think I might get the 15 next time I'm in the market.

the psp is fun. The dead pixels are a problem right now. i had about 8 on the first one that i returned.. and two on this one i just got today. The problem is - these 2 are in a worse position and i would say the 8 was a better thing.

That said, since i don't plan on really watching movies, i question if given the nature of the device i will even notice.. mine are stuck white, so when gaming, at least on THUG2 it's not noticable.. on metal gear however it will be. When they ctualy get it together and get replacements i'll prob trade in.. but they are so hard to find in manhattan right now - i really can't. The guys at my local eb totally hooked me up.. someone didn't pick up a preorder in time and instead of bumping it down the list.. they sold it to me great guys.

I have to say i was in awe again playing thug2 - it's so close to the ps2 version it's not really discernable.

Rige racer is fun (counter to my initial thoughts)

Metal Gear Acid is effing hard - but i barely gave it any time.

I would say that the psp could replace the ps2 easily when the title choices get up.. the graphics are amazing for a handheld. Sound is good too considering.

i am 6'5" - my hand from bottom palm to top middle finger is about 8" + change - and i found a comfortable position - took a minute.

I won't be using it for really anything other than gaming tho - i think the umd movie thing is hokey and mem stick prices are so big + i have a laptops so i'll watch vcd, dvd, divx etc, on that.

I am pretty impressed. dead ixels nonwithstanding. - again i don't thnk that it's that big of a deal.. fun stuff

Yeah, I heard about all the dead pixels. I probably won't be getting one until they have that sussed out, if at all. I doubt I'll get one, but damn I want one.
