If anyone in here previously had the DELL XPS2/9300 and now currently own the M680XL, can you tell use the battery life comparison.

I am debating whether to get the XPS2 or the M680XL.

It says that the extended battery for the M680XL protrude in the back of the laptop. This would not look good.

According to Laptop Mag with the standard battery for the M680Xl it gets 3 hours with no dynamic switcin everything birght the hard drive workin and samwe with the cpu. The cpu was on max. Now for the dell Xps2 it was different they had to lower the brightness and dynamic swichin to get aroun 1:30 min which is kinda sad! I would go for the m680xl

M680XL vs. 9300

I will have this comparison info in about a week. I Just returned my second 9300 (too many screen problems) and am expecting my M680XL mid next week. I can tell you that the 9300 was suppose to get 3 hours on the 6 cell and approx. 5 hours on the 9 cell. I paid an extra $100 for the 9 cell and could only squeeze about 3:25 minutes out of it, and that was with the screen dimmed down to half and the Vid card (256MB 6800) on power saver mode. I read that with the 8 cell (wouldn't go 12 cell cause it protrudes out the back) on the M680XL will truly get about 5 hours. Nearly 7 hours with the 12 cell. I will test it when I get it and report back.

I think you are looking at closer to 3 hours with the 8 cell and 5 hours with the 12 cell.

I just got my M680 and after a full charge, the battery has an estimated life of 3.5 hours. Of course that's just with the notebook sitting idle, but still pretty sweet nonetheless.

Which battery?

With the 8 cell and a full charge, it is estimated around 3.5 hours while sitting idle.

They're all supposed to be DTRs so battery life shouldn't be too much of a concern when you're considering buying any of these... that's what i think at least

Thanks for that useless information. What does that have to do with this thread?

I saw his signature. He's a troll. That's ok. Enjoy the crappy screen and wasted keyboard space on your 9300. Had one for 48 hours and ditched it.

I am currently eyeballing the M680. I wish the price come down a little soon although I hardly see price reduction on Gateway models in general.

I think WUXGA makes the text too small. I do a lot of coding work. WSXGA seems to be the happy medium between WXGA and WUXGA and it is the main reason I am considering this model. X700 should provide plenty power for not too-demanding gaming I guess.

I'm with him...

I'm with flashram. I just sent my second 9300 back. The best/fastest hardware in the world can't compensate for a crap screen. What's the point in having a killer video card if you can't see what it's producing. Dell almost had it, but fell short. Looking forward to driving my M680XL. Great graphics are great graphics, and this has them. May not have a "V10 under the hood, but the V8 will be a lot more powerful than a lot of the V6's and 4 Cylinders" still on the market (to use an analogy).

There is nothing shabby about the X700 and 1 gig of ram. Will equal or exceed the desktop performance of a 9800 pro. Also the Gateway screen is much better than the Dell screen according to all reviews I have read so far.

Ordered my m680 on Monday 4/25 and it shipped today 4/29. Not bad for a custom built notebook. I will post a review when it arrives.

Congrats. Be sure to tell us how it is. Some pics too. How much did you pay for what kind of spec? Was there any negotiation with Gateway's sales person?

God... I really should stop drooling over other's M680 and get ma own soon.
