thanks-is that dell software absolutely necessary or just there for updates which I can do manually?
And what about the sony dvd burner-windows drivers ok or is there a better driver?
I can't find one anywhere.

i was reading that it is recommended to use the update. It has various updates for you sytem in it. I have always put it on both of my systems when doing a clean install.

don't forget to update your bios first. the drivers that i posted are the ones you need. if you are clean installing OS, you will need them. the ones listed on the site are the newest drivers. the other programs that i did not list are optional. if you have a dvd burner, you will need to have dvd burning software so you may have to download the dvd software update on the website as well.
