I don't know when Toshiba will make the S100 BTO. Toshiba seems to be marketing it to business users, who probably just take it the way it comes. It doesn't help that Toshiba will BTO other models, since they probably expect to keep the S100 this way for business users, and the BTO, like the Tecra M3, for people seeking better performance in things like video GPUs. I definitely feel your pain.. But for me I just went ahead and got the S100-S213TD because it was close enough for my needs. It had the screen resolution and CPU I wanted, and then I just bought the extras I wanted. BTW, this was one of the reasons I was looking hard at the Sony S380 which you could BTO much better, but in the end I needed the taller screen of the S100.
I started with adding the DVD SuperMulti Drive for writing DVDs, and it means I have the DVD/CD-RW drive it came with, as a backup optical drive, which I hope I won't need to use. I also bought the ram I wanted direct from Kingston, which was a big savings over buying it from Toshiba, but it also means I have the 2 256mb RAM modules as extras, which I will probably never use. I finally got the Toshiba SelectBay HDD Adapter, so that when the Seagate 120gb SATA drive is released later this year, I'm going to install it as the primary drive in my S100, and then use the existing 60gb in the SelectBay module as a second hard drive, swappable with the optical drive, which I will very likely use as a drive for storing movies and music on. I finally did get the Toshiba Bluetooth SD card for the S100 for bluetooth. It's kind of a annoyance that BT wasn't included, but I went for things this way for two reasons. The first is that I would like an easy way to upgrade to BT 2.0, which I don't see on many laptops yet, except for the newer Apple ones. And second is that while using BT and wifi on a laptop at the same time, (BT mouse), I noticed strange things going on with my wifi reception. Now I use a USB mouse, and use the BT card only when I want to sync my phone..
I suppose if you don't think Toshiba will change this, it will make a difference how close either configuration is to what you want.. Good luck..
