I have braved the wrath of Microsoft as of December 2004, all I-8600 were outfitted with the above. I had a dickens of a time 1.5 hours with a supervisor, finally he agreed, and 32 hours later I am still running the less trouble free SP1. Your consenus on whether you would take a retrograde or brave the perils of SP2 please. TIA

Ummmm, there's nothing wrong with SP2 except for the stupid 10 TCP/IP connections at once limit, and there's been a patch for that ages now.

No problems with SP2. Didn't really notice any improvements but certainly no problems.

The only difference that I have noticed with SP2 is that TCP/IP over a firewire connection is now much easier. One just has to simply plug the cable into the 2 different computers and it will work. There were alot more settings and messing around with SP1 to get firewire filesharing to work.

I have installed SP2 on many computers without any problems, by now most if not all problems with other programs have either been fixed or a work aorund has been implemented. The problem with SP1A is when you connect to the internet after you install it and are not behind a firewall, you will have the blaster and or the Mydoom virus before you can download and patch your system.
Since April 13 you can no longer block the Download of SP2 on windows update and if you do not download it you can nolonger download updates for SP1A.
The question is what problems are you having, you only talk nondescript symptoms or "its Buggy" no mention of what application is running or task you need to be performed.
I do advise doing a clean install of SP2 slipstreamed disc or a repair install with the disk. The only people who have problem is people who computers that are having problems already and think that SP2 will fix there problems. Then the install crashes during the install or there problems are more pronounced. I would not take the tech support from dell that your problems stem from SP2 but I would definitely try to find out what going wrong with your system so you can install SP2 and the other updates or your just setting yourself up for a nasties virus or worm or even more dubious mischief.

Well thats good but a Microsoft representative said that they were going to stop supporting updates for SP1A. Just because you can still download them now without installing SP2 does mean you always will. I was only providing information that I have received.

No problems with SP2. Didn't notice much speed decrease... but then again, I never did run SP1 on my M60. :shrugs:

SP2 adds many things that help our laptops, like much better Bluetooth compatability.

SP2 behaves differently with different versions of Windows.
I have the SP2 CD, so you would think it easy to upgrade.
With XP Pro Corp, adding SP2 to a previous SP1 system will almost always guarantee trouble.
Slipstreamed SP2 into WinXP Corp Pro CD, and it works great as a fresh install.
But I gave up with pre-running systems.
Either install fresh XP with SP2 slipstreamed, or leave it at SP1. Do not upgrade.

I was afraid of this so many different but conflicting responses, I am now more unsure than ever.

Here's the deal, if you want the latest Microsoft security fixes then you need SP2. Unfortunately/fortunately SP2 breaks certain programs that didn't do things the way they were supposed to. This means some programs don't work. I have been runing SP2 for about 2 months and for the most part I havn't had any problems.

been using it since it came out on 3 computers with no problems at all.

Some people might have older software that isn't supported by SP2. I think that's it is pretty rare though.
