Well I think I'd be happy with either the shuffle or the mini, for different reasons.

Now that that's settled, who wants to buy me one?

well i love my shuffle. i have the 1gb version an i've had over 250 songs on it. works great with itunes, that's what makes it better than any other mp3 player. i run with it everyday, and it never skips a beat

I have a question: MUST you use iTunes to import mp3s? What if you just put the files on the drive manually?

Yes, you must. If you just upload it manually through Windows Explorer, it will be saved as data only. iTunes will load it to the ipod's OS and whatnot.

of 250 songs, how do you find a specific song you want to hear, if you don't have a screen? This is one of the reasons why I'd never by a shuffle (the other being that I already have an iPod )

I don't see how this works at all. The mini has no USB out connector like the shuffle. You have to use a cord, right? I mean, i guess i could carry a cord around with me, but the whole point of a jump drive is it's small and you can take it anywhere since you never know when you might need instant easy data storage. You plug it in the port and you're ready to rock.

512 Shuffle and loaded about 8 cd's. Still haven't listened to them all. Haven't been in a situation where I needed 8 hours of listening. Thought it was a bargain for under $100. Still got room for more, should I ever need. Picked up the charger = very small and compact. Gave everything to my wife this AM for her flight to FL.

It's not meant to be used in the fashion you have in mind. Those are USB flash drives for quick, easy, low capacity storage - which is great. iPods and iPod mini's are external hard drives. Yes, they need the cable, but they can store several GB's of data - like the external hard drives that people buy.

So i've been looking into it, and it appears that Creative is coming out with the Muvo TX and V200, which are 1gb players with the same USB jump drive capability that I was attracted to the shuffle for, but they have an LCD screen so you can check the name of the song, etc. They're about the same price, so why would I even bother with a shuffle? I don't see any advantage.

well since i use the shuffle for serious running (i run cross-country and track in college) i don't need to find a certain song.
