If you have an AMD64 CPU running Windows XP Pro you get a FREE upgrade to Windows XP Pro 64-bit.

Anyone know how to get the free version? Their website has the ability to get a trial version for free but I don't see anything about a full version without paying a fee of like 12$.

"According to product manager Brian Marr, users will just have to pay for shipping and handling. "

Still a good deal IMO - I'd wait a few though, they might offer it on the net or something.

In order to be eligible to receive Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition, your computer must have been ordered between March 31, 2003 and July 31, 2005 with Microsoft Windows® XP Pro (32 Bit) preinstalled.
Dammit! I ordered mine without O/S. Oh well. Would have been nice to have.

Also, is this version any different than the free Beta copy that I downloaded a few months ago?

Don't forget that it voids your PC warranty, too.

as with any new OS, if you're not ready to mess around with it and possibly do multiple re-installs and driver searching, don't do it. Wait a month while everyone else goes through those headaches for you.

I have a computer with XP pro, but no 64 chip, and another with XP home and a 64 bit chip. Think I could swap the keys somehow? or would my other pro stop working?

I am interested in upgrading to the 64 bit version but I have the home edition on it at the momment.

Why would that be?

It's part of the agreement to get the 64-bit Windows - I'm not saying that every single manufacturer will automatically void your warranty, but you agree to it when you hit the "I agree" button.

edit: I should say "voids support", not warranty. I'm sure hardware is still covered, but if you call in for software support and you have XP64, you may not receive help.

That makes a little more sense. I think I'd be alright with that, except how can I find out if all my software will work with the 64bit version XP?
