Post your Everquest2 settings/FPS

Hi everyone I have read this forum for a while and wanted to ask you Dell XPS2 owners that have EQ2 what FPS you can pull off at different graphic settings and resolutions. Also what do you think the ideal settings were for balanced appearance and performance?
I'm an EQ2 player also (rare, most seem to play WoW here) and am curious. I may turn my resolution pretty low for increased framerate, and I'm particularly curious how the 'widescreen' mode in the game works and looks on our widescreen LCD...

1920x1200

High Quality. 30-50FPS

City zones rape me.

Thats still pretty nice at 1900x1200. Your the first person I have heard that runs the game at high quality. Not to mention the resolution at that level.

I don't use a stock setting, but a highly customized one. There is a very good guide on tuning your video settings up on the official SOE forums.

Once I get my G2, I expect I'll have my settings available to post most hastily. My present home system (AMD 2700 w/ ATI x800 XT PE) rocks outside and sucks in-town. My laptop (9200 w/128mb ati9700) is smooth as silk regardless, but my settings are somewhat less. I only use medium textures on my laptop, but particles are high and character models are high. Go figure.

Hopefully the G2 will be smooth or I seriously doubt I'll keep it.

Being as EQ2's graphic technology is designed for rigs 2-3 years in the future you probably wont be impressed

The problem with EQ2 is that it uses a LOT of CPU as well. You can't get by with an awesome graphics card and a moderate CPU. I get butter-smooth gaming in HL2 on my desktop, but it's choppy in EQ2. Blame EQ2, it's a pig and not meant to be smooth and gorgeous at the same time.

I don't have unrealistic expectations, but I'd like something closer to what I get on my 9200 (read: SMOOOOTH) compared to my desktop (read: CHOPPY).

I get 5100 3dmark05 on my desktop, so if I'm around that value with the laptop but with the speed of the CPU and RAM of the XPS G2, I think I'll be quite happy. Never you mind that I'll be happy to unload that loud X800 card as the fan is quite loud compared to my office. That and being able to play on the bar in the kitchen while watching TV and spending time with the family will be a plus.

I have read the post about settings on the SOE website and it only makes me more interested. Here is the Link http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/e...cending&page=1. Really I would love to hear some more feedback plus reading this faq might help some of you tweak your setting to just the right balance (and then post here about it).

I get my G2 today and my 2GB tomorrow, so by this weekend I should have it tweaked to the limit -- at which point I will post my settings here. I play EQ2 on various systems of varying power, so it's interesting to see what helps when CPU is lame and what helps when video card is lame.

OK well I found another helpful thread that you might want to look at. It is specifically about the Gforcde 6xxx line of cards. Apparently there is a bug with them and this game right now. http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=41689.

I'm very interested to get some more feedback on XPS2 owners experience with this game.

Ok just found some useful info. I have read a couple similar posts to this from XPS owners. This is obviously coming from a 9300 owner but like I said I have read it from XPS owners so if you are having problems or even if your not you might want to try it.

I FIXED my stuttering. I had EXACTLY the same issue here, I have the Dell Inspiron 9300 which is an xps with a different case (how mine's configured). Anyway, my stutter started after the same time. No "fix" listed worked...until last night.

"Before I'd tried disabling McAfee antivirus/firewall, even ending any related process with no success. Last night I uninstalled both and the McAfee control panel thingy and the problem is gone. I can now run it smoothly at a higher setting then before. So before you mess with anything major, try this.

This just proves further that mcafee is junk software, I've never had a system run right with it."

edit: Would be nice if I could get more feedback before I go out and buy an xps2.

I have it on High Quality as well... and get 40-60 in most zones, except cities, where it's about 30. I get 40+ in even Very High Quality, but in cities it then drops to like 10.

Very interesting although you didn't put what resolution that was at.

Well my loan went though so I will be purchasing an XPS2 come the 1st of this next month. I guess If I don't get much more feedback I will be posting my own soon enough .

My 2 GB should be here today, so I'll post my final setting tonight after a raid tonight (since numbers while standing alone on a hill are pretty worthless).

On the Isle of Refuge (my main was camped in Zek where I didn't want to get hit my low memory issues while running away since I was camped right by DFC) @ 1920x1200 with High for all three texture settings, Model and Particle detail at 0.1 and most everything else (except for shadows) enabled, I was getting 60 FPS. When I turned on shadows and character shadows, that dropped to 30 FPS with one light source. I think my viewing distance was 500.

But once I get the RAM and get some time to do some serious tweaking, I'll most more details.

Okay, played some but no large groups yet.

I currently have the following setting. Mind you, I custom tweak every setting based on the forum (eqiiforums) knowledge about which settings affect FPS the most.

I'm running @ 1920x1200, full-screen, no v-sync, no letterbox area.

Complex Shader is around 60 (but setting to even 150 shouldn't really affect too much).
Model Detail is .1, Particle Detail is .1, textures are all HIGH, particles are HIGH, water is set to ONCE, water interaction is off, animations are all on HIGH, flora is completely turned off (NO MOBS HIDING FROM ME).

Shadows are currently off, as I haven't had time to really evaluate them yet. But in my past experiences, having them on is a huge hit in sunny outdoor zones (antonica) but not so bad in other zones like nek where there is no sun -- but you also only get shadows in those zones from torches, etc. So I would really just leave them off unless you bed for eye candy.

My biggest concern that I haven't tested yet are the HO particle effects that are group effects. Also, certain mage and enchanter buff particles are brutal to the 6xxx series cards from nVidia, so we'll see how that goes. I may have to setup a macro that drops particles to medium for raids, along with setting zero high-detail characters on raids (which I recommend, since you're fighting and if you have high-detail toons, it always draws the nearest 3 (or your setting) and that means constantly swapping textures to make room for the current nearest toons.

Hopefully this week will see more action and I'll be able to decide on a final config, at which time I'll post screenshots of my settings.

Thank you ITBitz nice feedback.

How are you monitoring your FPS?
I'm running on Very High @ 1920x1200, but haven't played much so I don't know if it's really functional. I just ran around, jaw dropped a bit cause it looks awesome, and went to town where it was a bit laggy.
