I'm having the same problem, I was watching a dvd the other night and thought what the blazes!?
I thought it was interference from the dvd drive itself.

Shoeman your my HERO!

I disabled the IR Port and viola, no more beeping. I forwarded this info on to Sager and included a link to this thread.

What a great community. This was the only problem I have had with my 8890 and it was a showstopper as I am always working with my headphones on.

Thanks!

Then one night I noticed that there was a little red light blinking through the infrared port right next to the sound card and the blinks coincided with the beeps...so I went into device manager and disabled the infrared port and the beeps were no more.
Thats not an Infrared port - thats the SPDIF port...unless I am really mistaken you guys really lucked out

I disable mic, spdif, phone line, pc speakers, aux in etc. in the colume options and keep only master volume and wave unmuted - works like a charm...

I think the disable the IR port is a wrong cure...just my opinion...

It worked

Shoeman, you're the man.
I disabled infrared in device manager and it stopped my chirping too. My chirping was like 3 chirps every 3 or four seconds!
As a matter of fact, while I had the head phones on (nothing playing) I went back into the device manager, and tried turning it on, and instantly there it was again! So that was the source of my chirping. Incidentally, removing all the volume bars except the master and wav did not help my situation gsferrari

hmmm...thats weird...maybe they switched something on the new models...

hee hee - as long as you have a cure who cares

Its the 8890 guys with the remote control who might not be too happy to live without the IR port...

its weird..but i don't hear the "beep beep beep"...i'm using plantronics with the sound turned all the way up on the 8890 and the volume control on the headphones all the way up. maybe i'm just deaf in that range

the only thing i can hear is a click click whenever the hard drive is busy.

edit: just read the other posts...i don't have the infrared ports disabled...still no beep.

my remote still works with the IR port disabled...I think the remote interacts with the Audio DJ panel on the front of the machine as opposed to the IR port located on the side.

one other thing...does anyone else have a problem with the headphone jack where when you plug it in all the way it is much quieter than when you have it in about half the way?

It's strange because when I do this, the onboard speakers also play...

Just wondering if anyone else had the same problem or knew how to make the headphone jack output louder...Currently I've been running my headphone jack through external speakers just to get ample sound output which works fine, but is kind of a pain.

shoeman22 you should try jamesshuang's manouver to fix your plug (only kidding - please don't break your new babies).

It does point to some wierdness about the audio/headphone ports though.

SWEET! Shoeman, you're my HERO! Those beeps were DRIVING ME UP THE WALL! You absolutely ROCK! Too bad I actually USE the IR... Oh well, I'll just have to activate/deactivate it whenever I use it.

BTW, you said you "saw" the IR port blinking? You must have one heck of a set of eyes to be able to see that IR light! I verified it: use any CCD camera and you can see IR, and you're right, whenever it blinked, the speakers beeped...

Please, NO ONE try what I did to my laptop. Luckily mine still works as of right now. However, I noticed the same thing about the plugging in halfway before I pulled my plug. Now, it think somehow I got it to be that volume without the builtin speakers playing. That's what I think I did to make it louder... In any case, I'm happy, hopefully nothing goes wrong...

yep...although I don't think amazing eyesight has anything to do with it...

If you are in a dark room, just turn on the infrared port and look straight into it and the red light is clearly visible.

Also, just curious, what do you use the infrared port?
I sync my PDA with IR. I'm too lazy to use the USB...

BTW, did you have the screen on when you saw the IR port blink? If you did, you're amazing!
yep the screen was on.

hehe, I can even see it in the day time

Don't you see a blinking red light when IR port is on? Mine is really bright and kind of hard to miss when it is on.

That is not the IR port - its the SPDIF port if it is on the back of the laptop...

WHy would anyone put an IR port on the back of the laptop?? Its usually in front or on the side...

Check your manual...RTFM

I used RTFM because I got that from a nix guru on a forums...I asked him a fairly good question IMO and he gave me the RTFM...took me a while to figure out what it was...

And then I thought RTFM was a pretty cool thing to tell someone

gsferrari,

neither the spdif nor the infrared are on the back of the laptop...what port(s) are you talking about?

Wow, you're right! If you look directly at the little window, there's a very dim blinking. Good for you for noticing, I would NEVER have noticed something so subtle...
