Clearing CMOS password

Thread Starter
I need to access the bios panel to do a diag test on the hardware, but can't there seems to be a PW on the bios. I tried to unplug the cmos batt and replace, but that didn't work to clear it. My qestion is, isn't there a jumper on the sys board to use to clear the password?

Well that would depend on what laptop/system board you have...

Remember you should remove the CMOS battery for 15 - 20 minutes to fully clear the cmos...

on a thinkpad.........no. and if you removed the cmos battery you may be screwed. you will get a message saying "system has been tampered with". there are ways to retrieve the old one but it involves building an interface and using another computer.

as far as i know anyhow.
