s360 LCD

Hey, I know I posted this before, but I tried a few different S360's and they all had the same issue. So the problem that I'm seeing is that it has a pretty bad ghosting issue. It's hard for me to describe it in words, and i dont really know how I could take a screenshot or picture to show the problem. But basically, when looking at text, if I scroll up and down, then the text will bleed pretty bad on screen. Also, if u look at some message box, or for example the display property window... if u start moving it around the screen slowly you will see the text just start flashing. I'd appreciate it if other users with an S360 could just run this quick little test and let me know if they can see any noticeable flashing.

I showed the laptop to the tech at futureshop where I bought it from, and they agreed saying that it does show too much ghosting, so they replaced it for me. The second one had the same issue... i tried 2 more, and they are all the same. So, I dont know if Sony changed their screens lately, or something because some users here told me that they couldnt notice any issues.

Also, does anyone know where I could find the specs of the LCD used in this laptop, more specifically the response time.

Thanks again.

The LCD has inherent ghosting natures...its an LCD after all. This panel is not as fast as my Dell LCD (2001fp) but surely not "bad" when compared to other lower end laptops out there.

I don't think you're going to find it to your liking if 4 have not satisfied you thus far

I guess it's something i'll have to live with. I was only asking because the demo models didnt show ghosting as bad as the new ones, so I was just wondering maybe the models are using different screens or something.

Thanks for the reply Craig.

make sure your graphics chip is not set to perma power save.

You also mentioned a 'demo model'. I've found that anything computer-related set up in a store will be beat to crap in very short amounts of time. For example, I "really" wanted a Canon printer a few years back and no store I went to could print out crisp text. Even with the Canon rep working it, it just wouldn't work right. Laptops set up in super stores are constantly running, being beat to crap by every customer that comes along. Its amazing that my wife is still interested in a s360 based on the condition of some of the floor models around here (Virginia Beach).

That being said, yes, LCDs do ghost except in high end models. They do so worse under florscent lighting.

If ghosting on text is your main issue, make sure you enable ClearType - it helps with the scrolling issue. In games though, you just going to have to live with it.
