PC-Cilin (Trend) I find it to use less resources than Norton or Mcafee. Plus i get iut free through work hehe. We use Trend Server protect and Enterprise for all the workstations company wide so we get free home use.

I agree with you. Best freeware software anywhere. I use the commercial version, BUT the free version is superb. Highly recommended.

For the hands down best antivirus protection, use NOD.

For the best integration firewall/av/spam/popup/cookie software, use Zone Alarm Secuirty Suite.

Mcafee and Symantec are mediocre at best, and hog system resources like they are going out of style.

Zonealarm Security Suite AntiVirus is kind of dissapointing... its my Computer Associates...

Kaspersky has the best detection rate and virus definations, but like alot of those say including me, resource hungry.

SAV Corp 9 is fast, but even if the liveupdate is configured to check daily it misses the checks sometimes...

i have norton 2003 and basically been formatting my harddrive once the subscription ends so i can reinstall it and renew the subscription. and since it downloads the latest virus defs and such... it's as current as the newer versions.

but since norton hogs so many resources, i switched to avg and have noticed a difference. everthing seems to run faster and avg's free and updates often.

I agree to an extent. I only use Ad-Aware. Instead of IE, I use Firefox. I haven't had any virus problems in the last 4 years that I've had a computer. And even now, I only use Firefox and Ad-aware and don't even look back, still living in no fear of a virus.

But, then again, I NEVER give my e-mail out--I use a junk hotmail email for online ordering and nobody ever sends me chain letters and whatnot on my real one.

Nobody's mentioned Bit-Defender. I'm using Professional Version 8 and it is definitely in the same dugout as NOD32.

Bit Defender is a new player in the antivirus field, not very sure of its capabilities, too many mixed reviews around regarding the different antivirus. It seems that for corporate Symantec antivirus is the most popular cause of its price and performance ratio.

Regardless of who makes Zonealarm, the program does it all. Its ability to do so much makes it great. I was able to get rid of norton antivirus, my software firewall, my spam blocker, and my spyware scanner/popup blocker, and replace it with ONE product. To me that makes it a truley valuable product.

As for kaspersky being the best, that is highly debateable. I would take nod32 over kaspersky any day. Nod32 is the ONLY antivirus that never missed an "in the wild" virus. Everybody's got a definition virus list the size of texas... its about being able to stop viruses known and unknown. And Nod32 is the antivirus that microsoft them self use for their own computers. Says something eh?
