of course dell builds it, not just laptops but also desktops. it's like asking who makes intel chips or amd chips. maybe people are underestimated dell, dell aint no alienware, who snaps their name on someone else's product

you sure? i dont think dell builds laptops....
I always thought Dell built the chasis's for their laptops, that is how they are able to keep the prices down.

Dell use Taiwanese OEM. The fact is that more than 60% of laptops sold worldwide are manufactured by Taiwanese companies with plants all over Asia (mainly in China or Southeast Asia). Don't be surprise that some of your DELL, APPLE, SONY, HP, whatever... came from same manufacturer.

Some of you guys are cracking me up... Dell does NOT make their laptops. They are built by other companies that Dell contracts with. Dell tells them exactly how to make it, and to what exact specs. Now I know who makes the 700m and 9300, but I am not sure about the 6000. Wistron makes the 700m. Compal makes the 9300, and I am almost positive they make the 6000 as well, but do not quote me on that.

Dell absolutely does not build its laptops. It’s funny reading the posts of the clueless. Look how confident they are in their misguided posts. lol.

Pretty sure it's Compal.

This is all sickening, but hey, what are ya gonna do, all these "Great american companies" are all outsourcing nowadays, it's sick! I'm against outsourcing, it kills thousands of jobs and ruins our economy, oh well, I'll leave it at that. You get where I would go with that though. Why can't we have atleast one company that is based fully in the USA, builds their products in the USA, with parts made and from USA, made by American workers, in the US!! And then sell their products to americans, and still be successfull, making profits. Oh well, no one can seem to do this yet in this country.

because the cost to produce and selling price would be so high that no consumer would buy it.

Dell never has made laptops....however, that doesn't mean they don't influence them.

This is not new. Dell has never made a laptop in their entire history. They have always outsourced this to the huge Tiawanese manufacturers like Compal. In the past Dell...and many computer companies like Gateway, did much less specification of the designs. If you removed the logo a Dell might look exactly like a Sager. Over the years, Dell has been more rigorous in their requirements and the manufacturers started providing more unique designs to large customers like Dell, Sony and of course, Apple (which is about as unique as you can get.) In my experience, Dell and IBM are two companies that place durability and reliability higher on their list of requirements. Dell's have a tend to be more robust than Gateways. In the past, Dell's have often been the only notebooks left standing after the severe abuse tests.

You've got to outsource as much as possible these days. Who wants to pay some doughnut on an assembly line $25 an hour to install memory modules, hard drives, etc? Despite any good the unions have been to workers, they have greatly assisted in the destruction of the american manufacturing base. About the only people that disagree with that is the folks who profited by doing unskilled tasks at professional salaries.
But, this is a notebook forum isn't it?

COMPUTER MADE IN MALAYSIA sticker was on the

outside of my 6000D box. I don't think they would just stick that on there for laughs. So, does Dell have a factory in Malaysia?

It is funny that people whine so much when they know so little about economics.

Go take a few years of economics, then come back and see if you will make the same ignorant statement.

I like american made products too, but that doesnt mean jack shit.
