Okay, nVidia fanboy... from what I can tell the x700 has slightly better performance and is a ton more stable than the 6600 when OCing. If I were choosing based simply on games, then I'd go with the x700. If I were to get a laptop right now... I'd go with either the 8104 or ECS600 (inch thick 15.4" screen w/256MB x700). I can definitely see where nVidia has a better top end card, but they are just the first, and that definitely doesn't mean they are the best. We'll see, I suppose.

oh please the X700 and the 6600go are basically the same in relative terms of performance.

Woa there haha I'm not saying I like nvidia because of its performance. Its more of a personal preference, not to mention that nvidia is american! (ati's canadian)

I'm another EE. I've had semesters that vary in courseload. This semester I had one class a day, M-F. I'd guess that you'll have plenty of time to play video games, especially if you have a few semesters of gen eds. You'll probably only be in class for 3-4 hours a day, max. Labs can take more time, but those are only once or twice a week.

I got along fine without a laptop for four years. I would say try to figure out how you're going to use it. If you want to take it to class every day, which some people do, then I'd go smaller than a 15.4 inch. But you probably won't be able to play games on it after a year or two. I just got a Z71V, but it was more to be able to have a tiny bit of mobility while not being a giant 17 incher, and still having crazy power. As an undergrad, you probably won't need too fast a computer. My old P4 1.5Ghz desktop runs PSPICE and Maxplus, but it would have fits with Protel. But I didn't have to use Protel til this year, and I can use the lab computers anways. I'd probably try to scrounge up an old computer for a year or two, and then buy a nice computer. Just get a XBOX360 or PS3 to hold you over.

I'm MIS and i can find pleanty of time to game. But comming from someone who used to be big into computer games in highschool, you will probably play less computer games in college, if not none. Ususally you play console games with you friends/roomates. Thats not to say people totally quit playing computer games, me and myfriends still play computer games every once in a while, but to be honest out of the 5 systems we have to choose from (gamecube, PS2, computers, nintendo, super nintendo and nintendo 64) the nintendo and PS2 get the most use.

3 classes a day is not rare. If you don't have at least one day of the week with 3 classes minimum, you are just lazy.
Yeah, i also don't understand why people go to school if they do not want to get something out of it. Do they really think a diploma will get them a job??
Anyway, i don't know how some of you have any time left to do anything else. After all you spend half of your day overhere.

It despends on where you go and what egineering you take up. Here at Texas Tech Electrical Engineering we have to take 5 Project Labs and when you have Lab that semester thre's nto too much free time. If you are Computer Science and provieded you are a strong programmer, you should have some free time. Ok ok... really its a case by case basis, but on generall you have less free time than a business major.
