for Asus: control Winamp with sidebuttons (HControl replacement) - Page 4

Hey, I just did this on my m5n and I'm thoroughly pleased. I have one slight complaint though. Sometimes when I'm changing brightness or volume, when I have to repeatedly press the Fn+* button, it locks up on me for about 15sec. When I say "locks up" I mean the laptop doesn't respond to my Fn+* calls. This may be a fault of the ATK driver or the hcontrol. I have no clue which one it is. Can someone else replicate my problem? or is it just the m5n with the 05/08/22 version of ATK? I know it's not really made for the m5n, but it works nonetheless. I might roll back the drivers if I get too obsessive.

But, I set the power4gear button to start foobar which is the coolest thing since sliced bread (or, undervolting, depending on how big of a nerd you are). I have reclaimed an unused button, and it calls firefox correctly AND turns on and off the wireless. GOOD WORK.

One feature request, can you add a little registry key to tell hcontrol not to check if the default function exists or not? Just one little binary code for each key, so that it doesn't go searching. This way, it could go straight to the correct app, and you don't have to go and disable other programs. Thanks a lot for the good work.

is there any way to make the FF and Rev key work in Winamp?

I wonder if you could look in to getting the WiFi button working with other wireless cards other than the intel one. I know a bunch of people with M6s and Z70s that have switched to Atheros cards. It'd be nice to have it working with the button.

If you can get it working I'll donate some nice beer money.

I just found this Hcontrol app, looks like its very handy.

Before i go ahead and use it i want to clarify some things.

In the Reg files,
If i delete lets say:
PHP Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ASUS\HControl\TPad-button] @="C:\\Program Files\\FlashFXP\\flashfxp.exe"
Does that mean the Tpad-button will remail as is and not launch flashfxp (or what ever app i assign to that buton)?

All i really want is the launch media player button to do i launch winamp and i havent taught of a program for the P4Gears button yet.

And what is Klient.exe? And which button is it assigned to?
PHP Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ASUS\HControl\Custom] @="C:\\Program Files\\Klient\\klient.exe"
Thanks,
Jozi

I've got a workaround for the next/previous not working when iTunes isn't active issue. Here's what you do:

1. Download and run iTunesKeys
2. Select previous in the list of things to assign and press in the box where you enter key to assign to and press the next button. (for me it says that Q is entered..)
3. Press "Set Key"
4. Then do the same for the next button!

It worked on my W3V. Good luck. Now I just have to figure out how to control the main windows volume with the buttons on the right side..

Or you could just install iTunes multi-plugin: http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/showthread.php?t=32733

set to mode 2 and voila! the side buttons work with iTunes even when not the active program. Plus it has a lot of skins for iTunes.

I've actually got multi-plugin installed and none of the mode activates the next/previous when iTunes not active. Some modes switches it so that next/previous work unactive but play/pause/stop don't.

So my workaround is the only way to get them all to work without having to activate iTunes on my W3V. Anybody else with a W3V where the multi-plugin makes all buttons work with iTunes unactive?

Works perfectly fine here.. Did you check "Fix media keys functionality" and "Make programs recognize iTunes as Winamp"?
