Anyone try to get a screen changed on an Outlet computer?

I'm wondering if Dell would support swapping a screen on a computer bought from the Outlet store like they do with systems bought new? Anyone try it?

They probably wont do a full system swap. You can probably get a normal LCD swap though. I'm curious as to hear someone's actual experiance though, but this is my 2c guess

They probably will, but if you don't have at-home service, you'll be required to send the laptop to their repair depot and if it doesn't meet their criteria for defective, you'll get the same one back.

does the outlet store have the 21 day satisfaction period?

Yes, it should carry the same 21-day deal.

I did this with my old 9200 refurb I bought. I called Dell just to get a screen replacement kit but they would not send the screen. They insisted on building a new system to replace the refurb system.

Seems odd that they would replace a refurb with a new system but like I said they were insistent about it and would not send out a LCD replacement.

go Figure

Actually, the outlet only allows 14 days for returns:

That isn't just a refurb issue.

From the many posts I've read, Dell has a tendancy to push a complete replacement rather than a part swap. It is probably cheaper for them to do this. However, if you let them do this you are out a machine for weeks....maybe a month. Also, I've never heard of anyone getting a guaranteed screen manufacturer for the replacement which means you could be right back in the que...except you won't have the return leverage because your 21 day return policy will have run out. Further, it is only 14 days for refurbs.
