Mine works fine all the time, a/c or battery. I check the speed with cpu-z. Also, setting it to desktop, remains at high speed when on a/c and speed steps when on batteries. Also tried the other settings, all seem to work fine.
I know because my 8200 is screwed, it will only speedstep when on a/c and when on batteries it's always at low speed. That's my primary reason for getting the 9300. However my 8200 with Pentium 4-M 2.6ghz seems faster and more responsive than the 9300 1.86 pentium M.
