Wow, impulse buying (700m)

Amazing, wonderful, and makes my stomach turn all at the same time.

Finally ordered a 700m that I've been pining for since about 3 months ago, damn having credit available just sitting at Dell, taunting me.

2Ghz
WinXP Pro
256Mb (upgrade later, cheaper)
80 Gb
CdRW/DVDBurner
8-cell battery
-Software:
All the basic crap that comes with Dells
Basic MS Office options

256Mb Key
Small carrying case

The only question I have, is it worth it to get services and such? I've always considered those for people who aren't willing to take their computers apart, and don't have much knowledge in general about computers. I've always assumed that if there's something wrong with it due to faulty craftsmanship they'll fix it without extra services (not like spilling something on it...blah blah blah).
Anyone's input on this subject would be appreciated.

1 year service maybe, two max. though depending on what you do the accidental damage service can be interesting

well.. i'd agree that most things are replaceable if you know what youre doing, but what happens when your screen dies, or your board frys(fries?).. i think at that point, youre screwed

For about $200 you can get the two years with totaldamage, do if you drop your baby and it breaks the screen you can get it fixed for free. A great piece of mind.
BTW, how much did you pay for yours? Mine was about $1100,00 after the coupons for bitching a little. Oh, double check everything with your 700m, because is within the first 21 days that you have a lot of leverage!!
Enjoy it!!

$1380.32
down from $2037

I upgraded the wireless card to the 2915 (I mean, c'mon, it was recommended by dell, so it has to be absolutely necessary, doesn't it?)
and the basic office was some extra too.

I'd say I got a good deal, and if anyone disagrees with me, shut up

I'll be checking that thing inside out and upside down to make sure everything is exactly how I like it, within that first 21 days.

If I come to my financial senses, I may return it just because I realize that I couldn't really afford it. However with summer coming up, I'll be working like a dog, so I figure I'll get myself a pre-emptive reward.

Holy bejeez, 700m went through stages quick, in a single day from kitting, building, testing, and I'm hoping it will be boxed tomorrow.

i still can't get over the fact that I got my second 700m for so cheap.

My specs were 1.8m, 512mb two dimm, CDRW/DVD, 80gig, intel 2200, 1 year. I combined a 100$ concession I got for free from Dell when I checked out.

I also got a 75$ USD credit back from them so I paid a total of $650 USD shipped to my address.

I then sold it on ebay for 1050 and ebay and paypal together took out exactly $100USD. so the equation looks like this.

1050$(amount it sold for on ebay) - $650(actual cost of laptop) - $100(ebay and paypal fees) = $300 profit

it was my first and last Dell/Ebay scheme and I think it worked out pretty well.

my 700m has been in the boxing stage since early early morning tuesday. hopefully it'll get here from malaysia late tonight. i ordered sunday and my scheduled delivery is may 2nd. but i can't imagine them "boxing" it for 5 more days, but the weekend is coming up soon. AAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! i want my laptop!

if you use americanexpress, you get 2nd year coverage free by american express.

it's a beautiful laptop. i'm loving it.

amex doesn't cover accidents, though. and you have to go through them to get the warranty coverage, which can take 60 days or longer.

i rarely use laptop on the move, so i never had a accident with my laptop. maybe solitaire on the plane. i figure by the end of 2nd year, it will cost more to repair than its worth.

that's why i got 4 year coverage. the 3rd and 4th only cost $65 each and CC is flat fee for however long your warranty period is.

I'm curious, and assuming, that dell's progress statements don't do certain things until certain points, I'm sure the computer waits in a box (while still being in the boxing stage) until the moment that it leaves the factory, at which point it is marked as boxed and then enters the shipping period.

Anyone done a lot of business with Dell and know if they ever deliver early? Or is it pretty much always (95%+ of the orders) on the day estimated?

(I'm just getting antsy to try it out, and possibly begin trying selling the vaio)
