Sony PCG-8N1L. Monitor is unreadable?

I have a laptop I'm working on (see topic for model). The screen is so dark you can't read a thing hardly. Every now and then it will flash into color and look great for about 2 seconds. The brightness is jacked up all the way. Any suggestions? I've tried messing with all the settings in the graphics, it has a GeForce 5250 Go. Any help is thankful.

Inverter or backlight.. I'd try the inverter first or test with a good known backlight. We get these in every day...

Thanks for the info man. Let me ask you this, is it very hard to replace an inverter and/or backlight (bulb/panel). ? Does it involve taking apart the lcd ? Thanks again for the info.

Inverter is easy.. Backlight is a pain and requires splitting the screen apart. We do a ton of them..
