Driver Installation Guide???

Hi,

I just recieved my brand new M6810, and I'm paranoid about messing anything up!

How do I install my drivers? I was reading, that you have to disable your current drivers, but how do you do this? Is it under msconfig?

Which drivers should I upgrade? There are soooo many, and it times it's a tad confusing, which I should download. Sorry for sounding like a noob, but again I'm extremely paranoid to my new baby...
Thanks,
K.

specifically, I want to upgrade my RAM to 1 gig pc3200 400 mhz.

I've been reading different things on the forums, and would just like to know what drivers if any I need to install on my M6810.

Thanks.

I encountered this site before, and was confused. Should I download every single driver from this site to have my computer the most up to date it could possibly be??? Are all of these drivers compatible with M6810 ???

thanks.

It would be a BAD idea to get the Via IDE accelerator driver. If you aren't familiar with how to locate drivers at the manufacturers web site and aren't having any problems, it would probably be best to leave it be.

Edit: One thing you may want to do (if you haven't already) is to go to windows update website and dowload all available updates from there.

All of those drivers are compatible yes. I'd only upgrade the drivers you need. As you can see there are drivers for Video Cards, Network Cards, Chipsets, Wireless, PCMCIA Chipset. They all work yes but do you need them all? Not really. If everything works don't try to fix it. The only thing you really want to keep up on are Video Card drivers, Network drivers and the Via 4-in-1 Chipset drivers.

Another question,

How do I install my chipset drivers for my MB? Do I have to flash it, or do I somehow un-install the drivers first and then install as I would a graphics driver?

I tried that one yesterday. BSOD.
Stay away from it.

They should really take that driver completely off the VIA site.

If the via 4 in one chipset drivers are bad, which do u reccomend for the M6810? I want to be able to upgrade the RAM to 3200.

Also, I've never installed chipset drivers before. Do you flash them, or just install them as you would a regular video card driver?

1. If you want to upgrade the RAM to PC3200, just swap it out - the motherboard will adjust to the speed on its own.

2. Assuming there was a need to update the chipset (and there is not a reason with the VIA drivers in the sorry state they're in), you just install them. The only thing you would ever have to "flash" is the BIOS - a seperate issue altogether from drivers.

To upgrade your chipset drivers you just need to download and install the latest Via 4-in-1's and reboot. Don't get the IDE Accelrator.

So, what is the speed/performance advantage to get PC3200?

The 4 in 1 (hyperion) drivers aren't bad. It's the IDE accelerotr drivers that are hosed.

I have yet to encounter problems, so I won't update the drivers just yet. Maybe if I run into problems with the 3200 I will update the drives.

QUESTION:

I've seen conflicting reports on how high you can upgrade the memory on the M6810.

If I take out BOTH RAM CHIPS how high can I upgrade? 1.24 gigs or 2 gigs?
Thx.

You have to replace both 256 sticks for 1gig sticks and you get 2gigs max.
