Battery or memory?

Thread Starter
I have decided to buy the Dell Insp. 6000, but should I get an extra battery (9 cell, $130) or extra memory (1 DIMM 512, $150). I thought about just buying extra memory from an online store for a better price. I could also upgrade the processor to a 2.0 GHz, and not get the battery or memory.

Are both memory modules accessible?

Any suggestions would be greatly helpful.

depends on if you need the extra battery or not. if there aren't after market batteries that will work, then i'd recommend doing the battery. if you are thinking about 1.8mhz to 2.0mhz, i wouldn't waste the money. i'd get more ram, but i'd get it from somewhere other than dell.

The deal I've seen getting thrown around for memory is at newegg and somewhere else that escapes me now. 1Gig chip for roughly 140, perhaps a little less if you can find the other place I don't remember.

Never upgrade memory through the manufacturer, it's the simplest upgrade that someone can do, and you can save a lot of money and still get more mem in the aftermarket...uhhh...market

Adamrg, why did you give me negative rep? suddstei6000

definitely go for the battery and get ram from somewhere else. The slots are easily accessible from the bottom. If you upgrade to 2.0, how much memory will you end up having? You won't see a huge difference in speed from 1.86 to 2.0, but you will see a huge difference in speed from 512 to 1GB.

suddstei6000, he probably gave you negative rep because you didn't answer any of his questions.

THanks all, the info about the 2.0 and 1.86 speed difference will help a lot

If you are thinking about upgrading the computer at a later date, I would get the CPU since that will be the most expensive and hardest to upgrade. You can always get cheap RAM from a place like Newegg and you can get an original 9-cell battery on ebay for $100 shipped. Plus, if you are thinking about also upgrading to a faster processor at a later date, why not save some money and just get the 1.6GHz right now.
