Just got the XPS2

Very happy with the few moments I've tinkered with it (still at work.) I haven't check with PS but this looks like an LG screen. I think it's absolutely stunning personally. It's painfully bloated with Dell garbage but I'll take care of that tonight. I got the NEC burner so I'm very happy about that. The power brick on this thing is MAMMOTH. I was expecting it to be big, but geez. Glad I ordered a spare so I don't have hernia surgery from lugging this thing out from under the desk. I was very interested in the sound when I ordered it. While it won't replace a proper speaker setup, it is EASILY the best sound I've ever heard on a laptop. I'm tempted to run without the external speakers for awhile to see if I can live with it as is. Priority 1 for the purchase was to try and clear my desk of wires/clutter. I'm not sure about the LEDs. They scream "PC riceboy" to me. I know I can turn them off but I haven't found the app to do it yet. Got my XP CD from Dell. I ordered on the 20th so exactly one week from order to in my hands. Pretty good I think.

Overall happy so far. Can someone tell me where to adjust the LEDs?

Well congrats!

I have a 9300 and also love it. I have the LG screen and I think it's great. Just a small amount of light leakage from the bottom, but only noticable BEFORE windows boots up. I probably should check with a widescreen DVD to see if it's bothersome.

I also agree about the sound. The speakers are the best on any laptop I've heard so I just use the those and headphones when needed.

The machine is also blazing fast, especially in gaming. Dell's Bloatware is totally useless, so as many others did, I just reformat/reinstalled. I haven't run 3dMark05 after the fresh install, so I'm going to do that tonight. I also just bought a new cheapy $10 Labtec mic from Wal-mart and started recording some music (vocals/acoustic guitar) and it's sufficient for my needs. I don't really need kick butt quality.

9300/XPS2s rock!

Left click on the dell quickset icon in your taskbar. Select XPS gaming interface.

Ah! Thanks! Much better without the LEDs in my opinion. I'm glad they give you the option. I'm sure some people like them. I wouldn't have bought the notebook if I couldn't turn them off.

Other than quickset, is there anything I should actually keep? Quickset is also responsible for on screen display of volume, Wifi status, etc. correct? Will the front panel audio controls work without Dell software of does quickset do that also? Sorry for all the questions but I haven't actually bought a prebuilt computer in about 8 years.

I think that stuff you're talking about is handled under 'notebook system software,' unless I'm mistaken...you can find it on the Dell support site for download...
