HP zd8000

hi , i recentley bought the the zd8000 meachine , im very pleased . however i installed gta3 last night , and the conmputer just hangs ... it crashses the vpu or somthing like that.
i have the x600 ati video card, i was wondering can anyone give a suggestion on what to do ?

did anyobody else had that issue with other games as well , or is it just me?

allso , does anybody who has 8000 know why it says on the DVD + and not +/- like it should be????

i don't have a zd8000, dont have the money, but what exactly happens when you try to load GTA3? Does it crash before it finishes loading or does it enter the menu and crash when starting a game, or does it crash after starting the game and playing for a bit? Have you tried updating drivers? Is there an error dialogue? does it have problems with other games?

And the dvd drive: i don't know, perhaps you could try burning a "-" dvd and see if it works?

It works fine here. Go to the HP support website and download ALL the updates available (don't forget to update the bios with the revision F24!), and of course update the video drivers and ALWAYS, ALWAYS use the ATI drivers provided by HP, otherwise Media Center 2005 and the remote won't work!
Don't forget to update GTA3 as well!

P.S.: As you already have probably noticed, the zd8080 doesn't come with a Double Layer DVD burner. I've created a new thread here to turn it into a DL burner!

A couple of things:

I don't think that you can get just a +R writer with this notebook. I'm pretty sure that they're all +/-R.

Is your GTA3 a purchased copy or a burned (ie. downloaded) copy? Could make a difference if you're not loading it correctly on the latter.

What other games do you have installed? Any problems before now?

Otherwise, my games that I've installed so far are flawless. I have Neverwinter Nights loaded along with SWAT 4 and they work great. No hanging and no lockups. I have the ATI x600 w/256MB ram. Let us know how things work out.
