Yep, after a wait that I thought would never end, I finally received my Inspiron 700m.
Here's what I can see so far:
80 GB HDD is the Fujitsu MHV2080AH, which is a 5400rpm 8 MB buffer drive. Yay!!!
DVDROM/CDRW is the Philips CDD5263. Philips is made by BenQ, which is a good company. Yay!!!!
First thing I did when I got the notebook out of the box was stuff a 512MB PQI 512MB SODIMM from Newegg into the underneath RAM Slot, for a total of 1GB of memory. It's working well so far, YAY!!!!
I checked the LCD carefully by watching the first 5 minutes of 'Spaceballs', and there is NO light leakage whatsoever!! Not even the tiniest bit! YAY!!!!!!!!!
After all this, I uninstalled a bunch of Dell crap (WordPerfect, Sonic RecordNow, etc.) and replaced it with my own copies of REAL APPLICATIONS (MS Office, Nero, etc.) and the lappy seems content with more grunty apps on the HDD. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For those curious about the Dell utility thingie which is supposed to burn your non-included OS CD, it's in the C:\Dell\MEDIAEXE directory. I went ahead copied that entire directory out of the Dell directory onto the desktop (400MB) and compressed it with WinRAR. Then I went ahead and burned off the XP OS CD. As expected, the MEDIAEXE directory in C:\Dell deleted itself. Good thing I have it backup up already....

That's all I have to say for now. More impressions later...
