What are the latest official drivers for the 6800go?

I've had my 9300 for a couple of weeks now (yeah it rocks) but i've been using the stock 6800go drivers. So now i'm wondering whether to update them?

Let me make it clear that i'd much rather use the official, stable updated ones rather than a 3rd party effort, but as long as they're stable and easy to install i am open to suggestions.

Many thanks.

get the official latest drivers from nvidia.com and simply modify the .inf file with the one that can be found on laptopvideo2go.com and you'll have the latest official nvidia-supplied drivers for your laptop

I checked on the Nvidia website and couldn't fins anything, so i went to laptopvideo2go.com and downloaded the 72.01 drivers and the accompanying inf. file.

So are these the latest and most stable drivers?
And how do i go about installing them?

I apologise for my ignorance but I am a total noob.

no, do the following:
1. download the latest nvidia drivers here http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_71.89.html
2. run the downloaded .exe, it'll extract the files to a temporary directory (choose a temp directory that is easy to find). the setup will give an error after unpacking about your hardware not being found. no panic, this is normal
3. go download this file http://laptopvideo2go.com/infs/7189inf/nv4_disp.inf and put it in the temp directory where your driver files were unpacked (overwrite the original nv4_disp.inf)
4. re-run the setup from the temp directory and voila, latest official drivers installed on your laptop
5. have fun and say "thanks lapino"

Most of the 3rd party updates have been very stable.
The exception is the 76.44 from www.laptopvideo2go.com.
With these there are OpenGL problems which stop Chronicles of Riddick from running at all.
I am using www.tweaksrus.com XtremeG 76.50's
Not had any problem with any game yet.
It is always recommended to use a driver cleaner program before installing a new driver as the bits of crap that get left lying around and in the registry cause most of the problems people seem to have.
I use driver cleaner pro.

I guess you should match the inf with the version your using right??

Thanks Lapino.

But this link: http://laptopvideo2go.com/infs/7189inf/nv4_disp.inf just takes me to a page with a big list. Which file do i download from there?

Oh and one more question before i go and install everything:

What is the benefit of installing these drivers?

Cheers.

press right mouse button on that link and you can save the file
benefit = better performance and compatibility with games

Lapino, nice steps there thx.

My question is what does Dell initially load up on these laptops then when they build and burn-in? Doesn't it have or tweak the driver for the 'GO' laptop version as well, and if not, is it necessary or beneficial to?

Don't even mess with the modded inf's. Just download the Xtreme G drivers. Most are laptop compatible.
I'm using the XtremeG 71.89 HD drivers and they work fine. There is a selection for laptop you check during the install process.
Use Driver Cleaner Pro too.

Despotes, where do i get those Xtreme G drivers from?

And am i right in thinking that all i have to do with these drivers is just install them? I don't have to mod anything?

I've never had much trust in these modded drivers... just use the official drivers, I really see no use in the modded drivers except for slightly higher benchmarks

If you had actually read the thread you would have seen that I'd posted the link. Go back and look.
Use a cleaner program before installing new drivers, I use Driver Cleaner Pro, this reduces the chance of odd registry entries or DLL conflicts screwing things up.
When installing the XTreme G drivers make sure you tick the box labeled 'laptop' and if I remember 'series 6' for the GPU type, everything else is automatic.

Driver Cleaner Pro took my CD/DVD drive down. It refused to recognize CD's and DVD's. I had to use Restore PC from Dell to get functionality back and then start re-installing everything again. I will never touch that little app again. For years I have just removed the drivers in Add/Remove Programs and installed the new ones without problem. First time with Drive Cleaner...disaster.
