16-Pipe Mobility X800XT (M28Pro) May 10th

I thought it would be called the Mobility X800XL, but who am I to argue with Marketing? It's launching sooner than I thought, apparently:

ATI M28PRO transforms into Mobility Radeon X800XT

It goes on to say that vendors will probably be able to ship very soon, if not the same day. But you never know for sure.

Reason enough for me to hold out on the XPS Gen 2 at least until benchmarks and comparisons are released.

i agree. no reason to get the gen 2 now. the article points out that AW may be one of the first to offer the x800xt. if so, the AW will likely spank the gen 2. it will be interesting to see the benchmarks...

ahhh but know does alienware design there notebook portable? I honestly and i am a gamer my self but to think who wants something 2 inches thick its plain ugly. Dell wins hands down. For something that gets what 5 fps faster and its thicker hpotter louder no battery life just make no sense. To tell you the truth i doubted this card will be faster just liek Turion is faster than pentium m The Pentium m not only crushes the Pentium 4 and Turion it also beats the crap out of the Amd 3400+. I honeslty think there is just too much hype and then when it finally come out, people will be disappontied. Well mybe i am wrong but i was sure right about how turion sucks compared to pentium m.

ugly? have you taken a good look at the gen 2 (which, by the way, is no lightweight)? i agree the AW isn't a true laptop, but then again, it's not meant to be. it's a mobile desktop and it performs this function superbly. the x800xt will make it even better.

I seriously hope that the Alienware release will be 15" Turion or 15.4" Turion.... otherwise I'd never get a 17" screen even if it has uber gaming power.

If Alienware just pops the card in its fastest laptop, they are still going to lose to the XPS2.

Have you guys seen the specs on the Alienware laptops? The XPS2 is the same or wins in practically everything, and doesn't cost thousands of dollars more than its worth, and actually has something called "BATTERY LIFE."

Mobile desktop my ass, why have a "mobile desktop" when you can have a gaming laptop that performs just as good, if not better, and costs thousands less? People will tell themselves anything to justify their purchases.

SO ATI has gotten their act together and produced a counter weight to the 6800Ultra. Good news for us!

i'm not sure what specs you're talking about, other than the video card. an AW 51m 7700 with the 6800 Go certainly outperforms the 9300 you've got. like i said, we'll just have to wait and see the benchmarks. my bet's on the AW.

Wow... you are thinking very narrow-mindedly.

If Alienware ends up with this card for distribution, it's because Uniwill or some other OEM (who supplies AW? I forget) gets the card, and AW makes it looks cool. Heck, I'm all for looking cool, and if it takes me all summer to earn enough money to buy a MT-34 Turion with X800XT in a 1.3" or less thick 15" chassis, then so be it. I hope that AW uses the AMD and this card, if not then if they make a PM I will be duely satisfied. However... I'm not willing to pay 500 dollars for the AW eyes... they have to keep it relative to other resellers prices, plus the cosmetics...

Mybe his compter but it certaiinly has no chance against my pentium m 2ghz. pentium m will beat the living hell out of and pentium 4 3.4 and amd 64 3400+ anyday anywhere. Alienware does not know the meaining of a laptop. it makes no sense buying a laptop that is not portbale and that has not battery life. If all you are going to so is leave it plugged in why not get a desktop?

I am going to throw out a guess that the laptops that use this new card will get 3dmark 2005 scores in the range of 6500-7500. Time will tell.

LOL boy aren't you overly optimistic. My XT PE OC'd to 600/590 barely breaks 6500+.

I think that us being a little generous... I could see it pulling ahead of the 6800Ultra to 5500 or 6000, but I doubt it will break 7000

I see the MRx800XT matching the 6800 Ultra in all practical applications. Power consumption will be the same, and the battle over which one is better will boil down to preference, not performance.

Personally, I'd rather keep using NVidia since I know how the drivers work and how the performance feels (I have used their products since they bought 3dfx). Using HDR Rendering in Far Cry is fun...as is pixel shader 3.0.

So anyways, for the record, I say neither the MRx800XT nor the 6800 Ultra Go will offer a significant performance increase overall.
