Omegas vs Official Drivers

Question for those of you using the Omega Drivers. I had been using the Omegas based on the ATI 5.2 drivers for some time now but recently noticed that my system seemed unstable. I play CSS and noticed that the frames were getting jumpy and that quiting and restarting the game made it worse. I finally made the decision to uninstall the Omegas and go with the Dell drivers released this month and the problem has gone away. Has anyone else had problem with the Omegas after awhile? In addition, I have noticed that the frame rate with the official drivers is just as high as with the Omegas but it is smoother. What has been your experience? I am beginning to suspect that the Omegas may be damaging the video card.

I installed the omega's (lastest ones) after i reformatted it and have had an issue with it. When i close my lid and leave for a while then come back and open my lid more often than not the screen will not come back and I have to reboot. I havn't noticed anything in games yet becuase I havn't reinstalled them. As to the omega's damaging the card, no they won't, the only thing that will damage it on our part is overclocking them to much.

computer geek,
i have experienced lid issues too though not as severe as to require a reboot. I found that the monitor did not wake up when i moved the mouse but that opening and closing the lid a few times would get it started (this was if the monitor powered off with the lid open). i am not sure this was a result of the Omegas though. As for the damage to the video card being caused by overclocking, don't the omegas overclock the card to some degree? i know that you can push the card further using the radlinker but either way my entire system was not functioning correctly recently with the Omegas installed. Now that they have been removed i find that the system is more responsive and running better, both gaming and no gaming. No disrecpect intended to the guy who takes his valuable time to create the modified drivers for us all to use free of charge - your hard work is appreciated but i will stick with official drivers moving forward.

When you install the omega's they do not overclock your card, you have to do that yourself. I am thinking about using the DNA drivers again and see what happenes with those.

As for the monitor not coming back up that issue is also present in the Ati catalyst sets as well. You do not reboot...all you have to do is press the button thingy right up close to the screen. It is the switch that when the lid is closed gets pressed so the screen turns off. Just press it and voila your screen will be right back up. Annoying but I am used to it. I didnt know it would be that hard of a problem for ATI to fix something like that but apparently it is just that...quite hard! Wonder if Nvidia cards have the same problem.

Yeah whenever I have that problem the first thing i do it hit the switch a couple times and it does not help at all.

Edit: nvidia cards don't have that problem btw (at least not the 5650 GO). Also the nivida screen response (time it takes to turn back on once opening the lid) is almost nonexistent.
