bliss and the blotchy screen effect - Page 3

I just got my 8890V today and the screen is awful. I tried all the drivers available and the screen is still doing the same thing. There are vertical lines and bands of sparkliness and color gradations band and also have that sparkly thing going on. I have tried various resolutions, frequencies all with thye same result. I feel that the drivers have something to do with it because at the splash screen for XP there is none of this, of course that is an 8 bit screen anyhow. Perhaps the board is to blame too. I have a feeling that it isn't display. But whatever the problem this is totally unacceptable.

Uninstall old drivers, get newest drivers, 32bit color, restart. I bet it goes away.

I have done that very thing. I even went so far as to reinstall XP since I just got it installed in the first place. I have tried 16 bit and 32 bit also. But I will take your advice and try again. I'll will keep you advised.

OK, I just reinstalled XP, used latest drivers. Kicked it up to 32bit. The situation hasn't changed. I should also mention that this problem only affects the right side 3/4 of the display the left 1/4 is fine. This is the way it has been through 3 XP installs.

Sounds like you got a fuxx0red screen...

Rats, I was hoping this was a software problem since I just got this thing. But there are no dead pixels and the USB ports all work. Sounds kinda RMAish. Maybe PCTorque will have a fix that doesn't involve an RMA.

Sure.

If anyone can host a small picture I have a screenshot from Medal Of Honor Allied Assault that really shows the banding effect that some of us have.

CMON PEOPLE!? Im sure im not the only one totally confused by this yes it does, no it doesnt crap. Can someone help us get to the bottom of this? (PCT?)

I was going to get an 8890, but then decided to play it safe with a 5680 because of all the 8890 LCD questions.. NOW, I am hearing conflicting issues with the 5680... The only other place to go is AW, which I really cant afford - THROW ME A BONE!

Jeff I suggest just ordering which ever model suits you and then when you get it, inspect the LCD and make your own mind up. It would seem that between blotchy and dead pixels you just have to be lucky. More bananas I say .

I know that it is not really a satisfactory answer but it would seem that high res LCD's are just a bit too much at the bleeding edge. You would have to kill me first before I would give up my SXGA screen, yet others would send theirs back instantly. Likewise the 5680's.

You will find that even AW, Dell, Sony, Toshiba, IBM, HP and anyone else in this game have LCD issues. I have played with a lot of other laptops (both high and low end) and most of those are crap compared to the SXGA I have now. Which would I recommend - a Sager 8890 with a SXGA. Others will disagree.

Thanks Aussie.

Hope this works.
This was taken from Medal Of Honor Allied Assault on my 8890 with all the latest drivers.
This banding effect also shows up in DVD's a well.

Erky, perky. I see what you mean. I assume you are talking about the bands in the smoke eminating from the gun barrel. That smacks of driver issues. After my harrowing experience with a demo I gave last night I can atest to driver problems (my rant).

I don't think your banding is a hardware issue (don't quote me on that), short of trying the same game on my 8890 I can only suggest trying different driver combos.

You may well find that you can't see the effect on the 18" screen because it is connecting via an analog VGA port (which a lot of those screens do). This means the signal gets smeared and can effectively disappear (a lot has to do with cabling too). I am not sure about the signal format of DVI interfaces (so much to learn so little time ). Anyone have definitive specs on the DVI signals?

Some answers:
- Nec MultiSync LCD1830
- Analog only, connected using Sager's DVI/Analog adapter
- Native mode = 1280*1024 = Sager 8890 SXGA
- Chip, I do not know

You are so bad!
You forced me to rid my girlfriends of her Dell UltraSharp 1702, because I know it has a DVI connector. I am doing that right now but this screen (native mode 1280*1024) cannot reproduce the blotchy effects on my Sager.

What's wrong, should I trash those TFT's?

Moezy, clearly your problem is a driver issue because that is a screenshot and not a photograph of your LCD. Play with the driver settings and you may be able to make it go away.

I tried all that.
Set everything to high and still the same.

Well, I have gotten to the bottom of this problem. After 3 installs during an all day, first day session, I went to bed at 5am. Today I started up and the screen was perfect for 20 minutes and now has reverted to banding and distortion it had yesterday. So my prblem is heat related. I hope they can fix it without formatting my disc, I would hate to have to reinstall XP again. I,m calling Sagar now.
