I am considering one of these, so I want to see what people think.

I've noticed that the 4-cell battery for the 700m extrudes a bit out of the back. Does this get annoying for anyone? I just think it doesn't look as nice as it would with a battery that doesn't extrude.

Also, please explain your choice

i have the extended battery, whatever the largest one is, i cant remember how many cells, but it doesnt bother me at all, especially when i get over 5 hours of battery life.

I think the large one is 8 cells. The stock (smaller) one is 4 cells. For my needs, between 2 & 3 hours of battery life would be sufficient, so I would go with the smaller battery, which is why this is the one in question

700m battery

I bought my wife both batteries and we never use the smaller one. I don't notice it at all.

Only way I can see it as annoying is if you're carrying it around, but even then, I don't really see it as a problem. It's like carrying a normal 4:3 laptop.

I have the 8 cell and carry it around in a 12" sleeve sleeve every day, that's the smallest sleeve available and it fits with no problems. I can honestly say I haven't thought about the battery size since the day I got it, it's a complete non-issue.

Not annoying at all. It is not even as heavy as if you had the i6000d... that was not portable. And 5 hours is a plus.

Yeah, i got both to see which one would be better. For me the small one is uselless, simply 2 hours is not enough for me to use in school. The size is more of aesthetic thing, but after a while you get used to it.

8 cell is the way to go, especially with 5 hours of battery life..it's size is not noticeable once you get used to it

I'm saying two or so hours would be enough for my purposes, which is why I'm asking about the smaller battery.

I really appreciate everyone's feedback on this!

...then i guess the 4 cell will be fine for you.
Or, buy both and after YOU decide which one is better, you can either return it to Dell or sell it at EBay.

I don't think it matters that we're talking about the 8 cell. I mean, most of us are saying that the 8 cell doesn't bother us at all. Which I would assume the 4 cell would be even less a problem (not that there is one).

Another question dealing with the batt

I figure it's wiser to tack it on to this thread because people may or may not check back to it (which if i get even one response, it should suffice).
I'm getting mine on monday, and have the slightest bit of buyer's remorse....anyway

I'm just curious, with the extension of the battery away from the chassis, how tight does the battery hold to the chassis, and how much force do you suppose it could take? (imagine holding it vertically, and hitting the battery portion on a table edge or something.....no matter how much you'd rather not picture it) I'm just curious of the durability, or if it will cause me treat it like fine china.

Good point - how snug is the battery in its compartment?

You mean it wiggles?

Could someone post a picture of the 700m with the 8-cell battery attached?
