Dell 700m right for me?

Hey there,

I have an offer from a parent to pay for half of a laptop. I currently have a toshiba DTR type of laptop with a 17 inch screen etc, not very portable.

So, I was looking at the 700m, and with those sweet coupons, I was thinking of getting one. I would bring it to school with me etc, but I dont have a full, legitimate purpose, for example, some people get one because they take it to work with them every day and depend on it 100% to get their work done. Well i dont have a reason like that, except that I can do school work on it, take it on travels, and the super deals going around now.

So I ask you, if you were me, would you drop the $700ish for it? (Remember, parents paying for the other half)

Thanks,
Mark

Thanks, and I'll put in a recommendation.

EDIT: What ram have you guys used in the 700m that you know is compatable? Im looking for a decently priced 1 gig stick, because Dell is a total rip.

You are fast! Yes, it will work fine, i bought it a few weeks ago with the rebate as well (although at the time it was little more money).
With the coupons there is no way it will cost you $700,00.
Right now you can get 750,00 off and there's another coupon (10% off) if you use Dell's preferred account card. Also check for big bucks coupon, i posted mine here in this forum, so i do not know if people used it already, but go to Dell.com and order a catalog, with it comes a coupon for $75.00 off of $999,00 and up.

Now, i use my 700m in school, today for an example, my Nutrition Science teacher couldn't make but we had to watch the Super Size movie for an assignment (great movie btw), then because i had seen the movie before, i took advantage of time to type some other paper.
The 700m is really small and very easy to carry around. The screen is awsome! Good luck!

Yes, good price.

I don't think a decently speced 700m will cost at much at 1400 bux, unless you get a really long warranty.

It will cost ME $700, my parents are splitting the cost with me.

Thanks for the input!

And to the reply about the warrenty, I am getting the 2 year with 2 year accidental damage, so in 2 years, if it "breaks" i can get something else.

Thanks for the input guys! I think I will pull the trigger tonight!

So i just ordered it, and i found some big bucks coupon on here for an additional $75 off! That was a cool little surprise for me!

Total came to $1195 shipped. I just need to order the ram now.

700m 1.8 ghz
256 megs of ram (getting a 1 gig stick, and i have a 512 already)
80 gig hdd ( iwll call tomorrow when iget my order confirm to see what RPM)
other stuff?!

EDIT: I just got my order confirm, and called dell to make sure i would be getting a 5400 RPM drive, he said I would, and if i dont, he said i would have to send the hard drive back, i would get a credit for it, and i would have to buy the 5400 rpm one, and pay the difference. Hah, they wish, There will be hell to pay if i hear that.
