I need help on how to uninstall windows XP Pro on my asus z71v. I want help on that, then maybe some advice on how to do a CLEAN reinstall? EVERY step that goes into a fresh install of windows XP....Thanks for any help I can get.

you can probablt just pop in the operating system disc and it will give you an option to reformat and install. that's all. then follow the instructions onscreen as it finishes installing. when it's done, pop in your driver disc and load the drivers you want. Out of curiosity, why would you want to do that, though? My system didn't come with much bundled with it. The only "extras" installed were Power4Gear and Asus DVD.

1. Turn off computer.
2. Put in the Windows XP install CD.
2. Press ESC, and then boot to the optical drive.
4. Choose recovery console, and log in at the command line.
5. Type "format c:"
6. Computer will reboot... boot into the optical drive again.
7. Choose to install Windows. (You will have to set up a NTFS partition, faily easy to do).

Hope that helps

Alright Im doing it now, but what all should I do after the reinstall? B Nietsnie, can you help me out? What exactly did you do right after you got your lappy? Do drivers need updated/installed? I dont plan to OC the vid card or anything, but Drivers may need updated for touchpad and things maybe?

I installed all the drivers from the Asus Z71v disk except for the Wireless LAN, and the utilities in the menu (however I did install WinFlash). I then loaded the Intel Proset wireless software from the separate cd. Then installed the 76.44 video drivers from laptopvideo2go.com. Thats all the drivers I installed at the moment.

Hope that helps

Thanks B...knew ud help me out. Im finishing the reinstall now, and will do drivers next. also, does the vid card drivers help enough? I dont do alot of gaming as of right now, with the exception of WoW. Do i need to d/l them ?

"need" is a fairly subjective term here. the stock drivers work just fine, but the later versions will give you slightly better performance. I don't know if the difference would be noticeable, though.

OK guys one last thing please. Might be a really stupid question, but can i set a different internet connection as primary? I mean by that that i dont want internet explorer as my default, but rather SBC as my default so that when i hit the email or internet hotkey at the top, it goes to those instead of internet explorer. Also, how do I charge my modular battery? I ordered it with the lappy, and want to get it charged since i will be leaving in about 2 days to go out of town for business. do i change it out for the DVD drive and plug the lappy just like for the primary battery? thanks guys.

there should be a "set as default" option on SBC. click it, and there you go! You should be able to change in the modular battery just the way you described, but make sure the laptop is OFF when you do this.

Damn i know i said the last thing was the last thing, but have one more problem. I reinstalled windows, and now all i have on desktop is Recycle Bin. No My Computer, Internet Explorer, or anything that came on it originally. Asus DVD is also gone. Any help guys? I really appreciate it.

Click on the start menu for IE and My Computer. AsusDVD is on a separate disc shipped with the system.

OK Guys im back already....i cant seem to get the hotkeys up top set up. all of them work fine with the exception of the internet connection, and email launch. I have sbc as default, but when i hit those 2 hot keys, nothing happens. thanks for the help once again.
actually, my e-mail and internet hotkeys don't work either. *shrug* so I just don't use them!

They aren't programmable at the moment, but I'm sure somebody will write a device driver to re-program them sometime.

OK guys i got one more question....to get my DJ keys to work, can i just put some songs in Widows Media Player, and use the DJ keys to operate it? Or is there a special program just for these keys that i have to put music into to operate the DJ keys?

Also, i just downloaded AVG Antivirus free version. Does that automatically check my e-mail i receive, or is there a special thing i have to do to get it to check my email for me? Also, does Spybot Search and Destroy help for ADware and SPYware, or is it just for spyware and i need a whole new program for adware? Or is spyware and adware the same thing? Sorry, im VERY new to this as you can tell.....
