What's Black and White and 9300?

Here's what a 9300 looks like with black XPS2 trim. I didn't use the XPS2 hinge cover or the LCD back cover. A normal white-trimmed 9300 is shown for comparison (it looks so feminine, doesn't it?).

Edited to include more info about the replacement parts:

F8463 ASSY,BZL,LCD,17,NBK,XPS-G2 $10.95 (LCD bezel, shown above)
F8447 ASSY,PLMRST,PLSTC,XPS-G2 $73.95 (palm rest, shown above)

F8443 hinge cover $10.95 (optional, if you want black hinges)
F8469 ASSY,CVR,LCD,17,ATCT,XPS-G2 $79.95 (optional, if you want XPS2 steel lid)

F8466 COVER, SCREW, BOTTOM, PLASTIC, ANTHRACITE, XPS-G2 2 (covers the bottom two LCD screws on either side of the DELL logo)
F8468 BUMPER, LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, RUBBER, SMALL, XPS-G2 6 (covers the rest of the LCD screws)

No, if you read what he posted it is just an i9300 with the XPS2 trim! In other words he probably ordered the XPS2 plastics and just swapped it over. Lot less hassle than spray painting the thing...

I think the black looks awesome.

well, the black look great, but to be honest I kinda like the white trim. sure, my wife loves it even more, but I think it's a nice thing to differ the colors a little (it's always black/grey isn't it...)

Black looks much nicer!

Looks good. Partially OT: Since you had to open the 9300 up to replace the trim, does it collect as much dust as the 9200 does?

Updated original post to include parts list.

Speedde, just got this 9300, so no dust, but the cooling system is identical to the 9200, so I'm sure it'll collect just as much dust. Would've been nice if they made the fans easy to pop out (I think they did that on the 9100).

Black and White and 9300? I would have guessed Gateway's DTR.

The one on the left is a Samsung, and on the right is an LG. They definitely look different, but I'm not sure I would call either terrible.

$85. You can get the steel XPS2 LCD cover for another $80 if you want. The palm rest was sort of expensive because it includes a touch pad, LEDs, coin-cell battery, etc.

suits my creative zen the standard 9300

dellbert,

help a novice out. i'm trying to understand what you did because i plan on doing the same thing. you bought the first two parts on your list, right? and if i buy the third (which you list as optional) then that should replace all the white trim, no? then the steel lid is optional (but not necessary if i'm only looking to replace all white trim with black). and the last two parts? you bought those, too, no? they're necessary, right?

thanks!

No, the hinge cover on the 9300 is all silver. The XPS2 hinge cover simply has some black paint on the silver, so you only need it if you want the black LCD bezel to blend with the black hinge cover.

Right, those black bumpers and screw covers are necessary. I managed to bum some free from tech support, but they are also available for sale from spare parts.

how much were all the parts?

Thats awsome, I think black is much better looking. Was this project difficult? How long did it take? Can you give me a link to where you bought the parts because I can't find them on the Dell website.
