Samsung Color Profile That Matches LG Display

I've had my Samsung and LG sitting here side-by-side while I've tweaked the Samsung's settings via the nVidia control panel to match the LG's darker red/blue/green colors. After running various 1080p movie clips from Microsoft's site, these are the profiles I found that gave nearly identical color vibrancy and contrast:

Movies Profile:
--------------
Digital Vibrance: One stepping above medium (2.1 notches)
Brightness: 96% (can use 98% if 96% is too dark for you)
Contrast: 117% (or 115% if you use 98% brightness)
Gamma: 0.89

Gaming/Desktop Profile:
------------------------
DV: Low (1.5 notches to the right out of 4 notches)
Brightness: 98%
Contrast: 110%-112%
Gamma: 0.95

The benefit is you match the so-callled LG "punchy" colors while retaining the advantages of a samsung which include a brighter screen, less sparkles, better grays and an overall warmer picture.

And what are your settings on the LG which you are matching the Samsung to? I'm still looking for a good LG profile.

Depends how you want to use your LG. I found that when I used to actively use an LG as my primary display, I did my best to make it seem brighter and for the grays to be more apparent. Otherwise it looks fine with just a small dose of DV.

You can set the above settings for gaming/movie watching and make another for desktop work. I made a compromise profile so I wouldn't have to switch back and forth which is:

DV: Same
Brightness: 98%
Contrast: 110%
Gamma: 0.91

The benefit is you match the so-callled LG "punchy" colors while retaining the advantages of a samsung which include a brighter screen, less sparkles, better grays and an overall warmer picture. I'll be taking a series of pictures tomorrow with both XPS 2 systems next to each other to demonstrate the gains of this simple adjustment.
Id really like to see this.. the LG colors seem better .. the white is more whitish/bluish than the sepia/brown/sand.. white on samsung (defaults).

I need good SAMSUNG settings...

It seems even samsung has some grainyness.// but less/./ but looks less impressive as a screen

Actually if you get a good LG, you won't see any graininess. I have both the LG (my second one which is much more improved) and Samsung right now, and the graininess on the LG is much less than the Samsung.

I agree with you about the Samsung's sandish tan white compared to the whtish bluish of the LG.

I got lucky, I wanted my Samsung replaced cause I had one dead pixel
post #10 of 72
Oh cool... how did u convince them to replace for 1 dead pixel? usually they say need atleast 4-5 dead ones to replace the LCD right..
Cause I had other issues with the laptop, and finally the manager just thought it would be best for an exchange.

The exchange was awesome, they upgraded me to UXGA and DVD burner and Windows Pro, which I didn't really need because I have a retail version of it from my desktop hehe.

Snide remarks?
My LG is bright, clear, no dead pixels, very little light leak at the bottom which as almost dissapeared now over time and I dont see this sparkle crap some people are whinning about.

As in some of the remarks in a few threads where you all but state we are idiots if we think the LG is better. You say it very tactfully and very intelligently
(for what you are saying) but you put it out there nonetheless...

On my Samsung, I use the settings:

Digital Vibrance: Halfway between medium and low
Brightness: 100%
Contrast: 100%
Gamma: 0.66

Adjusting brightness and contrast, you end up cutting out colors (either lights or darks). By adjusting DV too high, you start washing out colors. Adjusting Gamma seems to be the only way to change your colors without losing or washing out colors.

Anyone know of a program where you can change the shape of the graph (aside gamma) without clipping?

If someone can host a small file, I've found a color correction profile that ROCKS for the Samsung. You might even have it on your computer. If you go to the nVidia settings, then "IMPORT...". The profile I am using right now is ICC - ColorMatch RGB. Another one I checked out is the ICC - CIE RGB. It's similar to the colormatch but darker overall. I prefer the colormatch. If someone can host this file, I will send it to you.

The profile works better than just adjusting the contrast and brightness (no offense). It actually gives the color line a very nice smooth curve. My colors just JUMPED out when using this profile on my Samsung. I thought I had a good colors with my Gamma adjustment. This is a lot better.
