I found this: http://notebookforums.com/showthread...746#post886746 but I don't know if this is the same as 1cent's overclock. Any opinions from someone who knows this better than I do?

ya the barebone is definetly avaliable in canada..
you might want to try some local retailers but i don't think they have any extra warranties kinda thing..

and tetrismaster.. it seems like some 1.8 pentium-M processors CANNOT run at the speed i'm running at..and some can 100% stable..

i still have no problems with my processor.. i undervolted.. and its running even cooler..

Thanks ewerx!

I read a review on tomshardware.com that intel had mismarked 100s of pentium m cpus, some higher end cpus being marked lower and some lower end cpus being marker higher. I'm betting thats what happened here.
i really doubt that very much
whys that? it happens all the time.
its also possible the socket FSB pin got grounded tot he ground pin above it, which would replicate the FSB wire mod on the 400mhz cpus.

i really dunno wut happened... it runs 18x 133.. i even updated to the newest bios.. it is still at 2.4ghz
not gonna complain.. i've had my rig reboot on me once .. after i further undervolted the 800mhz(6x)
my benchmark is pretty amazing.. but then the go6600 is disappointing especially if my dothan is running like a 3.8ghz p4

18x133? dang...its suppose to be 16x100...looks like you got an unlocked cpu.
actually it is supposed to be 18x100
mines 16x133

overclocking explained, there is two dip switches on the bottom left of the CPU, thw switch comes set to 533 FSB by default for the 533 CPUs, the other setting is 400, and require you to manually switch it if you have a 400mhz cpu or it overclocks it to 533.
which switch is this? I know there is a switch for celeron and dothan chips
post #55 of 63
its right next to the cpu, tiny dual dip switches, it regulates FSB from 400-533.

yup i can confirm it.. buy a 1.6 processor with 1 stick of 533mhz ddr2 memory
and you'll get a 2.13ghz 1gb pc4200ddr-2 and geforce 6600go 128mb system..
that just makes me all sad inside I didn't figure it out BEFORE I went and bought the expensive slower 1.86
post #58 of 63
do other laptops have this switch? or just asus?
no idea
So... lemme just make sure I understand this.. this means we can buy the 400mhz fsb chips, with 533mhz ram, then just leave the switch at 533mhz fsb and it will use 533mhz rather than the 400mhz???? Is it only working with the 1.6 ghz chips, or ANY of the 400mhz PM's? So a 2.1ghz 400mhz fsb PM would become almost 2.8ghz???
