Although this seems to be an issue specific to 8890 owners other systems might also be affected.

So if you do own an 8890 and would like to help, take the poll.
If you are not sure what the effect looks like or how to test for it, follow this thread. There is a link to a pic Adam took showing the effect (see Divine_Madcat's post) and a test to try and isolate the problem.

*bump* to see if we can find out the extent of this issue.

We need more owners to let us know if they have this effect or not otherwise we are never going to get to the bottom of it.

I don't care how many people claim their screen is perfect, I don't believe it.

If you know where to look, the effect is there. I recently showed the effect to someone with a Toshiba laptop who claimed his screen was absolutely perfect.

He wasn't lying, he just didn't know what to look for.

By the way, I don't think it's that big a deal.

My 8887v Sager showed exactly the same effect, but it did not stop me from buying a new 8890.

I'm not claiming it's perfect... just clear enough.

yes if i look at the bliss wallpaper intently, it is slightly blotchy... to begin with i don't even like the bliss wallpaper... i have my own.

i think that is inherent to the image itself. cause i see the same blotches when looking through my desktop on a CRT. whose only similarity to the laptop is both on XP, and both computers I use. i looked at the image stretched, and just centered (unstretched)... same effect.

lets ignore the wallpaper and go to the IE menubar.

if you recall a post Adam made where he had the image of the blotch effect.

as of this moment, I don't have that effect. no "chunks" of a single color.

many people complain of blotchiness because of that... I claim they either a got bum LCD, or have a problem between the computer and the chair. to a less harsh possibility, something goofed in the OS/driver installation process or some other setting that was changed.

All these claims that it's a bad driver is funny. I have the SAME harware... the SAME drivers.

I make no excuses for Sager or Clevo... but being a tech... I've seen too many instances where people (users) refuse to admit it's something THEY did... and adamantly claim it's someone elses fault.

I noticed that when the classic skin is used in Windows XP their is no blotchiness. Only when the XP skins are used is their blotchiness.

Sometimes mine is blotchy sometimes its not. I cant figure this out. Right now it is not, but i am sure that when i boot again it will be back.

I used to own 8887 and had the same problem. I believe it's the driver problem, not the LCD screen.... can't remember what I did, but it seem the problem is gone after I reformat the system and install a newest ATI driver then choose 32bit colours.

not a unique Sager thing

I am content with my Sager screen.

I know where to look and see the "blothy" stuff.

THIS WAS NOT NEW to me: my old 15 inch Sony Vaio laptop shows has exactly the same characteristic.

My external 18 inch tft screen works perfect on both systems.

If you change to classic and look at the blue bar at the very top, that shows blocks of colour as well.
