Looking for laptop like the Dell D610

post #1 of 4
Thread Starter
Is there anything out there like the Dell D610 with a better video card? The laptop is perfect except for the X300 video. The 14" screen, the processor, the hotswap bay for battery, hard drive, optical ... bluetooth and wifi built in, etc.

Does anyone know if the X600 from the Dell D810 would work in the Dell D610?

Does anyone have any benchmarks for the X300 compared to, say, the Radeon 9700?

Thanks!

X300<9700
X300<9600Pro
X300=9200
X600=9700

I've got a Dell D610 and you're quite right... a better GPU would be a great enhancement. Thinkpads seem to be suffering from the same shortcoming.

The only thing that I've seen that might be a good alternative is the nc8230 with it's 128MB x600 card. Weight is about the same even though the form factor is larger. Has gotten great reviews.

Don't buy a Compaq; hell, if someone gives you one as a gift you must suspect you did something really wrong to him.

You guys... how to explain. Companies are just... companies. Their main concern is not to please customers but to make profit and the bulk of the sales will always be cheap, cheap (cheap) laptops with everything cut off. The D610 has integrated video so it has to be cheap to remain competitive.

They will probably release a replacement for the 600m because it is showing age. However, don't expect miracles on the graphics part.

Just remember that Dell released a 64 MB Radeon 9000 600m and it sold very little.
