I used powerstrip and these settings which make the LG perfect, I flat out love this screen and can't see what people are complaining about. It is truly a conspiracy. If you must know now here ya go...

Gamma 1.50
Brightness -35%
Contrast -20%
Temperature 4900k

Try it. It should be good to go. If you feel the need to seriously thank me I can send a paypal address

LG are not horrible, they have really nice deep colors (with the exception of gray). The problem is they have sparkle issues which bothers some people. I just showed a friend of mine that has a 600m the two XPS 2's I have (Samsung and LG) next to each other playing a 1080p clip and even after tweaking my Samsung colors, he said the LG's looked slightly better. The whites on the LG didn't bother him at all and he said, "I don't know why that bothers you, its not bad at all." Then I asked him, "which screen would you pick if you had to keep one of these XPS 2 systems?" and he said he'd pick the LG because the sparkles didn't bother him at all, he liked the colors a bit better and the fact that it doesn't have noticeable light leakage.

What it boils down to is personal preference. To some the LG is clearly the better choice and others like me prefer Samsung. Neither display is great, they are average for 17" displays. If the LG didn't have the anti-glare sparkle, it would be one of the best displays on the market.

certainly is true that it has no problems with games, but unless all ur time on ur computer is spent on gaming, the screen should be good enough to use in all occasions. but i am satisfied with the screen on all other aspects, though i ll still be using the sony for my video and photo editing (despite its half dozen dead pixels and three year age, pfff if they can make great screens that long ago ...)

What is "LG"?
The LG is the screen on the xps2/9300 that has been manufactured by LG. The other panel that other people get with these systems are the samsungs.

Sorry operaman but those settings really are bad

Here are my powerstrip settings although greys still look off and still some bluish tinting.

You have to apply adjustments using non-linear ramp Graphics arts 2.2 gamma, then:

gamma: 1.2
bright: -35
contrast: -20
temp: 6500K

Yeah, I tried Operaman's config and the moment I changed it, the colors are washed out with a yellowish tint and text arent sharp. Operaman, dont lure members with that config pls. Here's mine

Gamma: 0.74
Brightness: -45%
Contrast: -20%
Temperature: 5600k

I think so far I like the default config more then anything Iv'e seen anyone post yet...

No matter how much you calibrate the LG, you will never get an accurate gray color out of it. I think its best to just leave it at default settings.

It appears that way to me as well....

Yeah, that's been my conclusion as well. Sigh.

If anyone wants to try mine, tweaked to look as close as possible to the Sony S170 next to me:

Graphics Arts 2.2 Nonlinear Gamma Ramp
Make sure you have all three colors selected and choose
0.98
0%
0%
6200k

Now switch to green and move the Brightness up to 25%, and then the contrast to 40%

Now switch to blue and change the gamma down a tiny bit to 0.94, then move the contrast up to 30%.

This seems to negate the huge blue color bias of the default panel and bring the greys out a bit more, while keeping the colors punchy.

I didn't really like anyone else's settings, so if you've tried everyone else's and didn't like them, this may be pleasing to you.
