I've posted this elsewhere but might help some of ya'll.
Fragmentation is so basic (but so important) that I forget a lot of people aren’t aware of the difference it makes. For people that don’t keep their systems clean, it will make the greatest performance difference of anything they can do. I always recommend to my non-technical friends that they buy Diskeeper and use it weekly or at least set it on auto.
For those of you unaware, Microsoft uses a “lite” version of Diskeeper in the professional versions of Windows. So Diskeeper works perfectly with Windows. I always recommend the Pro version (don’t know what the Home version does). Pro is $50, Home is $20 and the upgrades are very reasonable. It is SOOO much faster than the version that comes with Windows and you can do so much more with it.
I’m not connected with them in any way, it’s just a great product at a great price. You can check it out at http://www.executive.com/coverpage.asp
Here’s a Microsoft Knowledgebase article about the limitations of the built-in version: http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;227463
I think any IT pro that doesn’t tell his clients about it is really doing them a disservice and missing out on being seen as a computer genius lol! Everyone I’ve ever turned on to it has raved about it.
