Why do people complain about not receiving a Windows XP Cd?

I just don't understand.

Dell obviously gives you a small notice in the package stating that the WinXP CD is not included, however you have the option of creating one yourself. Yet people are bitching and moaning and calling in to demand a WinXP CD.

Why???
Because we PAID for it!

^^Good point. I like getting what I pay for.

Well, it is nice to have an official Windows CD rather than a burned CDR, however I've also seen a post here from someone who received the notice to burn their own cd...and their system wasn't equipped with a cd-burner.

I just ordered a i9300, and after reading some of these threads I did a chat with dell support, they stated that I would get the cds, but for some reason they never e-mailed the chat transcript to me.

so I guess I wait and see, if they aren't there I will be calling dell immediately , I paid for them, I want them... and the next thing I do with the cd's is to format and get back the hdd space.

They never emailed me a transcript either? I had an interesting convo but they didnt send me a copy like I requested.

I want the CDs to perform a reformat if I choose to later, or if I get a new HD. Plus, it seems like on MCE2005, Dell has forgotten to include the program to make the CD. Some people can't burn the disc, like stated before, so they have to get the cds sent. And, I've noticed that some of the earliest CDs that I've burned are no longer able to be read by the computer, and those were made less than four years ago. But the CDs that came with my 1993 Mac are still able to be used.

You paid for a legit copy of windows. The CD is just a CD. I can understand how frustrating it would be if you bought your computer without a CD-RW..

But i'm sure most people have purchased a burner with their new laptop and can burn a WinXP cd in 15 minutes.

It's interesting note that all the outlet systems appears to include XP CD's under detail system descriptions. Do any one ordered from outlet recently actually received a copy of XP CD.

I will get my 700m outlet order next week and will see if I get one.

A pressed cd is better than a burned one! It lasts longer, a burned one could have flaws and fades with time and sun exposure.

Actually, I think that Microsoft should provide us with a printed manual that details all the features on the software. Why should someone have to buy a book that Microsoft Press sells for $50+ to find out what your software does. That's why M$ makes millions and billions of $$.

I didn't get a CD-RW either. And I don't like the 3GB partition they put on your HDD.

why do people bitch about people that want what they paid for in both a legit OS key and the media. When I buy a new car I dont just buy the car and then go out and buy tires. I pay for it all. Why is it diffrent with software.

You make it sound like what we want and ask for is such a big deal and that we should not be able to get it.

Tell you what, next time you go buy a game and then they dont provide the media and expect you to download it and then burn it to just install it after you just paid the same amount as joe user who got the official media and you tell me if you feel you got your money's worth.

Well they should have the option for no OS installed or state CD not included! Because if the cd wasnt included I just wouldnt buy the OS! I can get XP Pro through my college for 8dollars anyways.

your comparison/analogies are ridiculous.

I actually think it's a good analogy. If you had the choice between downloading HL2 via steam or getting the actual CD's, cases, and kickass box, which would you choose? And people like me who don't have a CD-RW in their laptop are a bit screwed no? And the 3gb partition ain't cool. So the choices are, 3gb partition on your laptop, where you have to burn a CD to get a XP CD, but you have no CD-RW. Or, they just spend like 2 cents to give you a XP CD and put no massive partition on your HD and make it easier for people (especially those with no CD-RW).

Which would you choose?

Another reason is because so many manufacturers think that all the junkware that they think is SOOOO important for you to have, but all it really does is bloat your system. If I paid for an OS disc, I'd better get one. Restore discs are useless because they just install the OS with all that other junk on there as well. Uninstalling these apps leave a mess in the registry and simply cause problems.

Imagine buying a car in which the oil had already been used for 5000 KMs (~3125 miles). You'd have to go spend the time and money to change it right away! Same thing with the OS piled up full of junk: you have to go reinstall a completely CLEAN version of the OS, because uninstalling the junk doesn't work - time and money.

And, even if I can go through the trouble of burning a clean install from the hard drive, wiping the partitions, etc., why should be forced to pay the full cost of the OEM disc? They're stealing, plain and simple.

Sheesh...how hard can it be to provide discs with each one, or at least give the option to?

wow i never thought i would see a thread complaining about people wanting customer satisfaction.

i asked for the windows xp pro installation disk and i ended up receiving the same system restore CD's and utilities that came with my laptop in the first place
