Most annoying problem for a gamer!!!

Ok..this by far is the most annoying problem for a gamer...A computer that doesnt allow any games to be played on the laptop!!!

nevermind the games, damn it doesnt even allow the windows media player window to be resized. or refresh my desktop or any windows. everytime i do any of these the screen gets garbled and freezes..totally corrupted with artifacts!!! after 5-6 seconds of this i either get a blue screen or the desktop gets reduced to 640x480 res and 4 colors!!!

when its a blue screen the message is : ati2dvag device drivergot stuck in an infinite loop. and then some hex error code
if the res gets changed the message is : ati2dvag display driver has stopped working normally. save your work and reboot.

i got my laptop last week and it was working fine till friday when i tried to install new realtek audio drivers. when i was installing the drivers it crashed for the first time. so i did a rollback and reinstalled the old drivers. but since then all these crap has been going on. it might be just a coincidence but who knows!

MY LAPTOP CONFIG IS IN THE SIGNATURE!!

here is what i have tried to fix this...

- uninstalling all core drivers and reinstalling again
- reinstalling windows xp pro over previous copy and drivers also
- formatting HDD and installing windows all over again
- uninstalling and installing all these ATI drivers
- drivers that came in the windows cd
- drivers that came on a seperate driver cd with the laptop
- omega drivers 5.2
- latest catalyst drivers 5.4 modded using the dhmodtool v2.2
- opening the graphics card lid to check the fans..but they were working
- reinstalled directX 9.0c

Obviously its a graphic card issue, but what could be wrong, the drivers or the hardware or is it some hardware/software clash??

thanks in anticiaption for any suggestions/replies !!

Update!!

ok ...now it even does that when i am just in the desktop..even if i am not doingg anything, or if the screensaver is starts, or while loading wingows screen, randomly anytime!!

i tried uninstalling all drivers one by one, and running a game of quake3 after each removal when it rebooted. but it crashed everytime. i think x800 should be able to handle quake3..LOL..

for records, everything is at default settings (bios/drivers/winx xp pro/control panel settings) . No overclocking of any components. no alteration in the OS.

btw prostar 9096 is exactly the same as sager 9860 (which i was planning to buy earleir) so i put this topc in this forum. do i need to post in some other section??

Hi,

It sounds like you have tried most things regarding software problems, so that leaves only a hardware fault,
I would make sure your graphics card is seated properly first, then i would test your memory using memtest.
If none of the above solves the problem i would RMA it , sorry i cant offer any more advice. Good luck

Twist kill, if it is any consolation I have the exact same problem. The only way I can get the computer to boot is in safe mode where I assume it is not using the ATI graphics card. I have had my NP9860 for a little over a month and this just started last night. To me it seems to be a heat issue. If I let the computer cool down completely I can then boot normal but it will crash within the first 5 minutes after logging into to XP Pro. I suspect sharpshot it right about having to RMA it. Sager is suppose to call me tomorrow.

Observation..LOL

today i was goin thru some of the forums here...as i usually do..i and i came across a post/thread (http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=77872)....so i checked it in my laptop too

today when my laptop crashed again after 2 mins of booting..i dint shut it down or reboot by pressing the power button for more than 4 secs...i just turned the laptop upside down and opened all the compartments (ram/cpu/hdd/gfx card)...and guess what......all the intake fans were working except the gfx card..its exhaust was blowing hot air tho...i guess its a power issue ...i know x800 is power hungry..and stripping it of its power-supply even for a sec mite cause what is goin on with me right now

i even get those booting probs where i have to reboot it around 10 times just to get one successful boot into windows..and when i get that successful boot it crashes in 2-3 mins..LOL...i pity myself

i guess i will have to rma it now...i am kinda lucky that i had a custom vinyl wrap printed for the laptop that i made in photoshop and i dint stick it on as yet..otherwise i wud have wasted it...LOL

i will post the new pics when i get the lappy replaced and customise it!!!

thanks fer ur replies guys..really appreciate it!

hey ctsawyer,

it doesnt heat so easily..i am studying as a 3d artist for games, out of 24 hrs in a day 6 hrs i sleep, the rest of the day i am on my laptop and it runs either 3dsmax7 or photoshop cs or hl2 (i am making a mod for it) or personal work in maya 6.5 and in leisure time i play css or ee2 online..and whn i sleep i have tons of stuff to render which i do over the night....so usually its on 24/7 rigorious schedule ...still it doesnt over heat...

so i think it might be same as mine.."power to gfx card" issue

anyways pro-star ppl also gonna call me tomorrow..hehe..i will keep u guys posted..good luck fer u too ctsawyer

Me too. When I spoke with Sager they didn't really have me do anything. Once I described the problem they just said send it back.

Same problem.

Damn... I had same problem... then I trying flipping the computer up-side-down, and I saw, that the fan for the GPU wasn't running, so i tapped 3 or 4 times on the fan and it started, but when i turned off the computer and then turned it on again it stopped working. So after 4 days of trying, I talked to Sager and they also told me to send it back.
I also had the x800, now they send me a 6800 DDR3 instead for me to try with.
Havent recieved it yet, its been 3 weeks, but I know it should be here tommorrow. They didnt tell me why it took so long, but whatever.

You guys should do a search in here for "ATI x800". I have a 7620 and after 4 days of having the laptop (tow of really loading software on it) it crashed with art effect all over the screen. So I RMA'd and they sent me another one (now I have $5000.00 out with deposit) and I have had this new replacment for two days and the same thing. I have a pic and also a Quicktime movie at http://www.hiway-hifi.com/laptop and you can see whats happening to my machine. I will be putting up 5 more movies this evening for all to look at. I think this is a heat problem that somehow cooks the card in away that it wont ever work again once it's cooked. It will come up in VGA mode but if and when it really boots up the screen is unreadable.

I'm gettin a Dell! NOT! I'll get something else until they figure this out.

I believe it is a driver problem... Some drivers don't work correctly on 64 bit platforms... Is WINXP 64 bit as well?
