Standby Problem

I have a problem with standby of the 5680, everytime I put it in standby more and I try to go back to normal operation the screen would never come on, everything else comes on but not the screen and everytime I would have to a hard reset of the computer.

Does anyone have this problem and can someone help me?

Check and see if there are any BIOS updates for your machine. I've seen a number of past BIOS updates for various machines help with stanby/hibernate problems...

If not, perhaps it's your video driver? I hate to ask someone to change drivers, just to check something, but that might be something worth considering.

Does anyone have this problem? I installed the latest drivers but still it won't work

Hey, I have teh same problem..
Except mine is getting worse...

It takes me on average 5-8 tries to get my 5680 to turn on and boot into windows....

Then, half the tries, the BIOS resets itself, and I have to go into BIOS and turn HT on...

Not sure what the hell is going on, but it's sure annoying. I have the new Bios installed.

Also, it takes 3-5 tries to get any USB device to register..... (ie: Mouse / Printer) Plug in, Unplug, Plug In, Unplug ......

Anybody else having these problems? I'm getting frustrated.

5680 resume after stand by (stand by)

My screen will not come back on after standby (stand by) either. (5680)
I need help with this problem. My computer is not resuming properly after standby. The screen will not come back on. I am not sure about the rest of the computer's operation. The computer appears to go into a proper standby when it is set to do so, but when I return to it it is hot and a fan will be running, so on some level it appears not to be fully standing by. It does seem to be consuming less battery power during standby. There is no way to get it back into a usable state other than to cause it to shut down completely and reboot. I have opening and closing the lid, pressing the power button, pressing the sleep button (F4) the function key, pressing the display button (F7) with the function key.

System Specs:
5680
2.8ghz Pentium 4 HT enabled in BIOS
1 gig ram
40 gig harddrive
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1
BIOS at boot says 1.00.04 T2

Keywords: 5680 Standby Stand By Resume Screen

I still have that problem too!
Can anyone help us?

Woah, thats a wonder, eh? I remember that kind of crap on my 3-year old desktop. It was solved on XP, though.

The only thing I had that was related to this is that Kerio firewall had a screwed up driver and wasnt letting my sistem to go to sleep properly. Everything was fixed after an uninstall. Did you guys install XP yourselves or was it preinstalled?
Have you guys looked in the BIOS? Sometimes there is a option that will only allow the computer to come out of standy-by only by a certain key. All other keys and mouse movements will be disabled. I remember seeing this on a few other computers!

Should I install the bios update?
and
How do you know what the version of your bios is?

Just installed the bios update but same thing happens

btw
I forgot to mention that when I try to put it out of standby the fan on the left side powers up real fast and continues to spin real fast in a constant speed, had to hard reset because I was worried it might ruin something

Not sure what is going on ...

When my machine goes to sleep it becomes completely silent, but when it wakes up, it turns the fans up to max until it 'realizes' that its cool enough. I believe this is by design.

Oh ok but for your standby how long does it take the screen to come on?

BTW
Just tried hibernate and it worked fine!
Yeah, my hybernate works really fast. Must be the memory. But Standby still won't work. (Monitor won't come on when resuming from StandBy).

Sager Tech Support says to reinstall Windows XP and check to see if it works, then keep checking it as I add software and do updates. This is not an attractive solution, however I see no choice. I had a problem like this with a Dell once. One day it just went away.

Sager Tech Support also said to turn off Antivirus software, but I didn't have any on, so that didn't help.

I tried an external monitor, it doesn't work with that either. Tried opening and closing the lid, no luck. Tried toggling the "monitor" key, (fn+F7), and toggling the Sleep key (fn+F5).

Anybody have any clues to special settings in XP that may be affecting this?

Hey everyone I'm having the same resuming from standby problem (5680)... it just won't come back on, everything comes up but the screen. I know I installed everything correctly, been doing it for a long time. This is a really serious issue for me as i go class-to-class with my LT. Seems like its pretty common ... Will someone from PCTorque comment?

Let me know if anyone finds any solutions.

Hmm, has anyone actually tried formatting and testing Standby after the installation of each driver, etc., as suggested?!
mmarkin: I really didn't want to resort to that considering that I spent 5 hours setting it up yesterday when I recieved it in the mail, but if its a possibility then I will do it. When I installed Win XP Pro on my system yesterday I did NOT follow the order that they say to install the drivers in, think this might be the problem? I've never heard of the order in which you install drivers effecting anything, but hey at this point I'm willing to try it My other fear is that maybe it is one of the 30 some-odd updates I got from the "windows update" that might've done this, which means installing each critical update seperately and then trying standby .... TTTIIIIIMMMMEEE!
