I've never heard of the order in which you install drivers effecting anything, but hey at this point I'm willing to try it My other fear is that maybe it is one of the 30 some-odd updates I got from the "windows update" that might've done this, which means installing each critical update seperately and then trying standby .... TTTIIIIIMMMMEEE!
In this case, a reinstall should fix things up. The first time I set mine up it took forever because I had to download everything I needed. Since then, I have formatted once and I was done in just a few hours since I had everything ready on a separate partition.

On the note of Win updates, I always have all critical updates installed, no problem.

Finally, with the drivers, if Sager says one order is good, you should use it. You dont even need a manual because the directories on the driver cd are numbered accordingly.

Good luck.

We shall see

Just so everyone with this problem knows, I am currently in the process of reinstalling and doing it all by the book this time, checking standby at each step ... I'll let you all know what I turn up!

No luck ... looks like its hardware problem. Send it back or live with it.

Standby works find on my 5680. I installed all the drivers in the order sager said. I also am using the newest drivers from Sager's website. Maybe you guys should check out those drivers before sending your system back.

I just reinstalled and used only new drivers ... same problem! This upsets me GREATLY! I went in the exact order that the manual says to. The manual says Service Pack 1, but the only think available nowadays is Service Pack 1a. Though I don't think this is the problem because Yesterday I tried reinstalling and only installing the new video driver (you have to have a video driver before the OS will let you do standby) and I still had this same problem. Anyone?! Must be hardware right?

Did you use the new drivers off the website i linked to, or drivers that came off the cd?

I reinstalled and used the drivers from the link you sent me. I have also reinstalled using the ones off of the cd. I've restalled a total of 5 times, still no luck. I've tried both installing Windows Service Pack 1a (since 1 is no longer available for download by Microsoft) before installing drivers (as the manual for the 5680 says to do) and not doing that ... still no luck.

Anyone else have any more luck than I did? I still haven't been able to solve this problem and I don't really know what to do.

i have the same problem. My only rememdy has been to turn standby off. I had it set to only work when i closed the lid, but every time id go to move my laptop, id have to restart.

mine just says "preparing for standby" and thats where it freezes, it never even gets to it.

its not the biggest deal to me, i just set it to turn off the monitor and HD's after 5 mins *shrug*

I have the same problem when resuming from standby i get no video anyone got a fix for this yet ??
I spoke with sager this am and htey siad to format and reinstall via the order of the manual did that tested standby after each driver after video driver...and didnt work at all

i suspect it is either a 9600 driver issue or a hardware issue

I've found my 5690 doing the EXACT same thing, on coming out of standby, external mouse, keyboard, pcmcia WLAN and all fans come on, display turns on but video card does not. Have it set to turn everything off after 5.

I did everything i could think of and everything they could think of, they said RMA it, which I havent done yet but will before the year warranty is up

I have the same problem on the 5690 I received in May. I've really seen no resolution. In one thread, could even be this one, from a while ago. Someone updated their Realtek Net card drivers, fixing the problem. This didn't work for me but I thought I would mention it for you guys to try.

If you ever find a resolution please post on here. It really doesn't cause a big problem for my situation, because I don't really need standby for my use, so I certainly won't RMA mine for this. Plus I got the 3 year Warranty, so if I decide later, I have time. If I ever figure anything out, I'll post it on here.
