i9300 graphics upgradable?

Thread Starter
simply put are they really upgradable...i am very close to getting a 9300 off at friend but it was the 128mb x300 and i want a 256mb 6800, so this brings the questions:

1: can it be done?
2: is it worth doing, will i notice a difference in gaming, especially halflife 2?
3: how would the screen effect it all?
4: would doing it void my warranty?
5: how do i get a 6800 module to put into it if it can be done?
6: how much would one cost in canada, or in general so i have an idea?

lets see if you guys can help me figure it out on this one, thanks in advance.

you really need to tell us what laptop it is but you probably upgrade anyway.

you would notice a difference.

I too am interested in finding out if the X300 128MB in the 9300 can be upgraded to 6800.

Thanks for any information !

1: can it be done?
Yep (see FAQ).

2: is it worth doing, will i notice a difference in gaming, especially halflife 2?
lol, hell yeah. The 6800 go is multiple times more powerful than the X300.... halflife 2 with the x300 you might be able to get decent framerates with resolution and details turned down... with the 6800 go you could play on high resolution and details with a good framerate. Only way to go if ur a gamer.

3: how would the screen effect it all?
Wha? How do you mean? The screen doesn't affect the GPU, they are seperate.

4: would doing it void my warranty?
Only if you break something...

5: how do i get a 6800 module to put into it if it can be done?
Call DELL spare parts and see if you can place an order for it. May be a challenge but it is your only outlet for this card.

6: how much would one cost in canada, or in general so i have an idea?
No clue.

I can only answer a few of the questions...

Yes it can be done
You need to order from spare parts and it is currently running $350 USD
Does not void the warranty
I was able to get them to take the X300 back and get a credit of about $150
The FPS on the X300 is poor..

should have my card on tues...

Nup, the display is not gonna change, like windows quality and all that are gonna look the same. The difference you will notice will be in games, able to run at higher detail levels and greater framerates.

It has been tried by someone in this forum. It fits and runs but not at full speed. There apparantly is a voltage problem.
