What about Acer

The first 17" lappy that I ever owned was an Acer Aspire 1800. It's pretty sweey with the Pent IV 620 (?) 3.2GHz w/ hyperthreading, 1GB RAM, 100gb HD, 128MB Radeon X600.

I run a commercial video editing & website design company and I've done a lot of work with this machine. Before I bought it I didn't even know Acer was still around. Anyone else use Acer?

I have the 1804. How do you tear it apart so I can clean out the dust?
You have to remove the keyboad, I use the flat head of a screw driver, and then open it up from there. Also, the battery removes, and another bottom panel opens to reveal the processor heatsink. I think I was able to use a dust blower up through the heatsink.

Although these two cards aren't as powerful as their big brothers, they will not dissappoint at all. You can still turn on pretty much every effect and max out the resolution, but they won't last as long as the highest end models. Gamers will love this GPU
Great iniciative Michael!

I just would like to know what did you mean with "won't last as long". Last in the meaning of durability?

Anyway, I own a Fujitsu-Siemens M3438G, (17" here), so if you need any info to add to that guide, feel free to ask.

Cheers!

And today we have the GTX 280m SLI and HD4870 CF. Kind of makes the 6800 GO and X800 look weak.

This sticky needs update or removal.

You are totally correct. Would you care to make the updates and modifications for us all?

You can post new and I can edit and referencing the update from OP to your new post.

Asus G73JH-A1

i7 720QM
HD5870m
8GB RAM
2x500GB @7200 HDD's
FHD

$1595.65, link.
how fast is the hd5870m relative to the 280m?
I don't think that we have a concrete performance rating between these 2 cards yet since HD5870 is brand new.

As of this writing the 280M is still top of the list.

cheers ...
