PentiumM vs. Pentium 4 M

Ok so I am still fishing for a laptop…. What has me puzzled is the pentium m vs. the P4 m.. I know the physical differences and that clock speed has nothing to do with performance in this case. what I cant find is a set of bench marks that shows the difference between the two at all let alone office software vs. gaming.

So I put it to you guys has any one seen or had the chance to compare.

Comparison

Generally speaking, multiply the clockspeed of the Pentium-M by 1.5ish to get the rough P4-M performance level. This can, of course, vary based on system configurations and the individual application itself, but it seems to more or less hold true for FPU and well as integer-intensive applications.

IS it worth the cost to get the 1.6

I will have to see what happens with the new Intel pricing but right now i am wondering if it is worth the cost to go from a 1.4 to 1.6 as the 1.7 is just to expensive.

That depends on your platform. Some laptops alow you to get at the CPU to switch it out, like the CompaqX1000 for instance.Finding that new CPU may be a little tricky, but I have seen them on both ebay and pricewatch.com .
But generally speaking its always best to get the largest CPU you can afford in a new notebook .
