If the pentium M version, the 4200 is cheaper, i would get it, but of course its not gonna be cheaper so im looking at the turion version. The price is suppose to be good. Im guessing maybe $1200. But i dont think anyone knows for sure.

I dont plan on buying notebooks every year. I maybe upgrade my desktop every six months to a year like im crazy, but i dont plan on doing that with my notebook. So no matter how unimportant bluetooth may seem to some, Id rather have it and not regret it later. As im prone to buying stuff, and then selling it just b/c i couldnt wait to get what i really wanted. Or just b/c i want to have the best that i can afford.
roger. not trying to undermine your descision. but i have to ask: "what is OTHER STUFF" ??

LOL. Other stuff, burning dvds/cds, ripping dvds/cds, downloading gigs and gigs of 'stuff', etc. And maybe some digital video editing etc. Pretty much i want to do everything on my laptop that i can do on my desktop minus gaming which i dont really care about having top notch graphics on my notebook. Could i get buy on a less poweful notebook. Yes. But since i cant go from a athlon xp notebook to a a64 buy doing a simple upgrade, Id rather buy a notebook that has a little more power than i need so i wont feel the itch to want to dump it in a year or so.

I hope the screen resolution isnt the bare minimum or there is a way to get an upgrade. Also what type of ram would this take? I know its ddr1 but what speed?

They look nice, but 1000 only has a cdrw. If it had a dvd burner I would buy it.

You can get notebook dvd burners cheap as hell now. The black would throw off the color scheme though.

Well, here's some more information on the 4100 from Averatec. It's going to be a Turion MT-30 (1.6 ghz). What I find really interesting is they say it has 2 MB of system cache...is this a typo? I seem to vaguely remember something about 2 MB cache Athlon 64s...

Looks very nice, but I like the MSI Megabook S270 much better.
who knows? but it is looking better and better for what I want all the time

Yes, it's great that there are coming more Turion 64 based ultraportable notebooks. Good for competition, good for us consumers as it drives prices down

The new P-M model, the Averatec 4265 is now at staples.

Im guessing the turion model will be the same price at other stores if not cheaper. Sucks that it has a garbage graphics card. I want the Turion model, but the sony s360 still looks good to me b/c of its graphics card. Too bad its not a Turion. I dont know what im gonna do now.

i was going to post that link, haha, well hopefully the 4100 would be cheaper and better than the centrino crap!

EDIT: DAMN! I looked at the specs and let me tell you, it is kinda hard to beat those prices, I think is the cheapest laptop with good specs in the market!

I'm dissapointed, I'm back again waiting either for the Ferrari 4000 or the MSI S270. Look at the specs on the 4100 here:

It has a SIS chipset. I hate SIS chipsets, it SUCKS!
aw... I was hoping they'd use the ATI chipset...

guess it's back to the wait for the S270
hmm i wish the bloody thing had pc3200, so it is either go with the centrino or find another laptop
post #55 of 70
guess im back at looking at the s360 while they're still around. Knew it was too good to be true, cheap laptop, light, small, thin, nice screen, and a nice graphics card. Its still a good laptop for the price. But for me, I know Id regret getting it with the sucky graphics card. And with me planning on building a dual core amd 64 chip this summer when they come out, its not a big deal for me having a 64bit laptop. Plus i doubt i could at a bluetooth module to those like the sony. The sony s360 can be had for around $1500 which is still high compared to the averatecs. Damn, why couldnt they spring for a even half decent chip.

Decisions decisions.

You can always swap it for PC3200 memory yourself, it's not a big deal.
However, if the chipset doesn't support that mode you would probably buy quite expensive PC2700.

Is a DVI port too much to ask for?

On a sucky intergrated chipset, yes. Im sure it would be impossible to have the sucky intergrated card it has, and them somehow attach a dvi to it. The card has to support it.

Now, is a decent graphics card too much to ask. Its like they're scared to offer a high end laptop for fear of no one being willing to pay for it. Cant really blame them as ppl nowadays just look at the name brand instead of quality and performance. Aw well, kinda pissed ive been anxiously waiting for these to come out just to be let down.

I'm not surprised. Averatec specializes in Discount laptops. You get what you would pay for. Sucks, because Averatec could do far better, but they seem to only make discount models.
