Is it bad to keep the AC Adapter plugged in when not in use?

I noticed that when the AC Adapter is pluged in, the green LED is lit. Is it bad to keep it plugged in when it's not in use/not connected to my laptop?

Erm... ...depending if you leave it for months without using. This is a common isue with batteries. They need to be used in order to maintain full operational function. For a short time the pluged-in AC Adapter will do no harm. If you go on holls for instance I would unplug it.

The LED is just an indicator that you're plugged into an active outlet. If the laptop is turned off, the ac adapter is not active per se, and you can just leave it there. The only harm I see is if power spikes/surges occur while you're plugged in.

well you're wasting energy from the LED indicator

Yeap as the last poster said... Energy is being used...

In an effort to keep our planet cleaner i say unplug the adaptor (or seperate the power brick from the cord that comes from the wall) when not in use to save our planet and your electric bill.

yes imagine all the dell laptop owners just had the adapter plugged in just powering the LED light.

How much energy do you think that is?

A lot less than leaving a desktop plugged in I'm sure. Although if you count the thousands, perhaps millions of Dell laptops that have been sold, I'm sure it could come to quite a bit.

In theory...the last NYC black-out could have been caused by one final Dell LED being powered up.

lol

I have a 7 port USB hub with an LED for each port that are always on.. It's so annoying and there's NO reason for it.. Maybe just one to show that it's on, but 7?

Actually I like it on mine. My printer wasn't securely plugged in, and I couldn't figure out why it wasn't working when I tried to print. So when I actually looked at the hub, the light on it wasn't on, so I went back and checked all the connections and that fixed it.
