I wouldnt of made a new thread, but since the price of 2 GBs from New Egg is now less than the price of 1 GB From Dell, I thought it warranted a new thread.

1 GB(2x512MB) Dell Upgrade $250
2 GB(2x1024MB) Transcend via Newegg $247 + $4.33 Shipping

$123.50

Bah me tooo, It was $130 then $132, then when I could finally afford it, it was $132.50 so I figured it was going back up. At least it comes in today!!!!

Can everyone that has this RAM give a take on it..I mean I like the price it makes it look good but 130 vs 250 for the big guys...why is this ram so cheap it just makes me nervous..I have always used crucial which is rather steep sometimes but my ram has always performed with no problems..So is a stick of this as good and they are just going with the lower price means more sells or is this memory good but not as good as say crucial or corsair mushkin etc...I know there has to be a difference I just want to know what the difference is so if you have the knowledge about ram give more than a they just didnt test it blah blah blah answer to this....is it low quality or not and try to back it up with something..I am thinking about buying it because it is basically 2 for 1 against the others but they also sell McDonalds for 2 to 1 compared to a burger at a steakhouse

Well so far there haven't been any

"Transcend Ram sucks" threads, alot of people have recieved theirs and there havent been any complaining threads, and you know with us 9300/XPS2 users we would make 1000 posts if the Ram Sticks Sparkled or something.

Edit: Does anyone know if there are heat spreaders around that can cool down the Ram in the 9300? Do you think they are even neccessary?

Since you can't overclock anyways right now...I would think that they would not be needed. Honestly, we don't know how good any of this RAM is yet since no one can overclock their laptops anyways.

It either runs stable (which the newegg Transcend does) or it doesn't at this point and that is the only differences I am aware of at least.

That won't work on an Inspiron 6000 will it? I don't think so since it's PC 4200 and 533

Yes, it will work for a 6000. It's PC2-4200 Sodimms.
yeah i just ordered it 2 days ago for $5... errr. oh well, I am gonna wait until I have paid off the laptop until i get the second 1 GB DIMM
post #12 of 34
get this.... I went to a local reseller and at first he said that it didn;t exist for laptops, lol. I then showed him the transcend at newegg and he said, "well... i didn;t know they made those for laptops" He then took my computer model (9300) and went to kingston.com and found a compatible 1gb stick and phoned, then told me that it would cost $280.25!!!! Man it sucks living in Canada, lol, wish that newegg shipped that stuff out here.

anyone know of any resellers in canada that would sell this stuff?

or maybe someone buy a stick and put it up for sale on ebay? I'll pay shipping etc.

I thought the 6000 only accepted PC 3200 400Mhz, no?
Why are the kingston 1GB sticks $215 for best price and these are so cheap? There has to be a reason. Kingston doesn't overprice their stuff THAT much.

It will work fine. I have a 6000 with pc4200 memory.

Side note to all. Did we really need to open a new thread about memory?

130 vs 250 is not an accurate comparison because you are not taking into account the discounts and deals from dell.

$250 at 20% off = $200.00
$250 at 33% off = $167.50
$250 at 41% off = $147.50 (was what I paid with the super EPP+33% deal almost 1 month ago)

As with most Dell add-on, Dell prices them at high retail but then they get discounted a lot when you throw on the coupons. And you know dell is still making a profit.

$123.50 is still a good price for 1Gb ram.
Eventually I will upgrade to 2Gb.
has to be taken a step further, for 250 dollars minus whatever discount you get two[u] sticks of 512MB ,
post #19 of 34
Nothing is wrong with the ram, kingston has value ram around the same price. These are their budget rams, they probably have higher latencies and less overclocking abilities but should work fine...hey if you dont want to save money by all means buy dell is official ram its really cool!
What i was trying to say is dell oem ram sux & is overpriced...they sent me hynix ram on my last laptop (supposidely is dell official bs ram).
